Dear Friends,

I want to share an experience that I has today.it was time to lift conditions on my green card and I was so worrying about my mails get lost in the mailbox cos they sometimes mix it with my nextdoor.so I went to my attorneys office today.after waiting 3 hours for him all he said was leave the papers for his secretary and she will take care of everything.so I started putting down all our document which are joint with my husband on the desk and she didnt get a copy of my passport or the back copy of my green card she said it is not necessary but the funny thing is she filled up I-751 and gave it to me cos my husband was working and couldnt make it.so I needed to go with him on another day.and after i came home at night I took out the form to have my husband sign for it and realized that she spelled my last name incorrect didnt put our apartment number my address was wrong all information about my ssn, alien number and nationality part were empty.I got so mad and started crying for 750 paying for nothing just to make sure about the mails so they can get a copy for it.i dont worry that much about the money part but for this legal assistant that being so unprofessional and no caring about paperwork made me so worry.what if she make another mistake. We decided to go with my husband on monday and told to attorney(if we can find him)I dont know what to do:(I started thinking that things are not gonna go ok because of the fact that how it started...I was gonna make the copies and organize everything but then i said since i am paying that much at least they should do that part for me.but i think i was wrong.what should i do at this point?

You will do better without an attorney. You need to send front and back of your green card never mind the passport.Seems like they just want money  .Don't expect good results if they cannot even put the correct infos on the forms.Good luck.

Ah! sigh! Sorry to hear that. Us immigrants not only have to jump through all hurdles that USCIS put down for us, we also have to face this kind of treatment from so called "immigration attorney". You can find my response regarding this topic here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=192019 .

You can also find a similar posting here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=193095 .

I can't tell you what to do because I'm not you, I can tell you this if I'm in your shoes, but at the end, it's up to your own decision: cut the loss and forget about lawyers, only remember lawyers when you are rich enough to play their games. I can also tell you this, only when there is a giver, there is a taker. People can treat you that way only when you allow them to. If you don't want to be treated that way, tell them straight out in front of their faces that you don't like their services. Learn your consumer rights. But you can forget about that $750 that you've aleady spent, you're not gonna to get it back. Walk away while you still have the chance before you get too deep. Come on! It's a 2 pages form.

If you move, you need to file AR-11 within 10 days with USCIS, if you haven't done it yet, do it online here: https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=coa . Also, your sponsor needs to file I-865 within 30 days if the sponsor moved (this one your sponsor has to mail it in) with USCIS, do it now if that's not done yet, http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD .

Btw, welcome to VJ! Feel free to ask any questions you have, we are all here either to get help or help others. Good Luck!

If the attorney is part of a practice, then demand an appointment with a Senior Partner and politely give details of the mistakes and fees paid. If it's a solo attorney, then insist upon a cost-free interview to fix the errors that have been made, either by the attorney or by his legal assistant(s).

It's shoddy and unprofessional of them to charge you for a service they're either incapable of undertaking or unwilling to provide. That doesn't mean that YOU have to accept it. If you're paying for the service, don't let them sign it off until you are happy with what you've received.

At the least, either get them to make good on the service you've paid for (where THEY take responsibility for the accuracy of the record they intend you to submit) or demand your money back and complete the application yourself.

This is EXACTLY how shyster lawyers make their money. They hope that you'll be afraid of their profession and not pursue them for what you're entitled to. Don't let them get away with it.

I report attorneys like that to my state bar, may not get your money back, but they have to fill out tons of forms to justify their actions, if they can and you get a copy of that report.

I was very happy with my attorney for the AOS phase, but when I asked him about the I-751, he said, will review our form and evidence at no charge to us, but didn't want to take care of it. He said I would be calling him every five minutes asking him where our green cards are at. Says he can't do anything about rushing the I-751.

Since we are in Wisconsin, and his firm is in Ohio, e-mail everything, but we sent the package ourselves, overnight with a receipt and a person check we got a copy of, told us we needed that as evidence that we sent our I-751 in case they lost our application, and if you don't, will have no proof that you sent it.

Attorneys around here want 500 bucks to fill out a quit claim deed, took awhile, but found the form, they keep that well hidden, typed out copying everything verbatim, except I was the seller selling my home to myself and my wife. Took all but 15 minutes and ten bucks to have it registered and stamped by our register of deeds and she checked every bit of it for accuracy as part of the ten buck charge.

I-751 was pretty straight forward, except you only list your kids that are conditional, just the opposite on the N-400, list them all, would be nicer if the USCIS knew how to ask a question.

Attorneys are superfluous for this process - you only need them if you have a problem. These people have shown their incompetency to you - fire them :bonk: and do the process yourselves. follow the examples here, read the forums and ask questions - we all try to help each other. good Luck
