Ok!! I believe I may have (RN) job interview coming up very soon! I just finished my preceptorship on that unit ( A preceptorship is where ya work 1 on 1 with another RN, you work her schedule for the most part, very valuable experience, plus he/she gets to know you)

So i sent an email to the unit manager stating I had a great learning experience,my preceptor was awesome, staff was great (will send a formal letter soon, on school letter head) Today I received an email back from her stating that she pleased my experience was a great one, and that my preceptor stated I did a great job and that i was to contact their nursing recruiting to set up an interview!!

So I shall contact the recruiter tomorrow to set up an interview! Can anyone give me interview advice? I know to wear a suit, will shower, lol but more along the line of questions that I should be prepared for. Any advice is great! I truly liked the unit and the staff, and want to be prepared. Thanks.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Congratulations- you're a fast worker!

From having interviewed a number of potential employees I always enjoyed it when the employee had questions about the job as it helped show their interest and initiative, so you might want to think of some questions to ask them as well. Also, think about what benefits you specifically bring to the job in addition to just the knowledge base and professional skills - what makes you the better hire?

The other tidbit of information I have always found helpful from either side of the interviewing table is remembering that they are just as interested in finding the right person for the job as you are in showing them you are the right person - things stop feeling so adversarial that way and it is easier to feel more relaxed.

Good luck!

And good luck to you too, Jill!

Oh! And you can get some great interview technique books as well. Check the library.... or the bookstore. lol. The ones I found really helpful were directed towards management hiring techniques because they give you a detailed analysis of the types of responses you're looking for from a candidate.

My advise is more from a character perspective... confidence (obvious), but just being 'real'...you seem to have a great sense of humour and in this day and age, employers tend to gravitate to professional people, who not only have confidence, but are empathetic and have substance...

Good luck!!!!!

Poprocks pretty much summed it up. Be yourself, stay calm and relax ( lol if you can!!! :) They obviously like you or they wouldn't have asked you to go to the interview.

Have faith in yourself and your skills..and don't be afraid to admit your best and worst qualities in the interview. Most employers like that honestly, and a good few of them do ask those type of questions.

Good luck and go get em tiger!! You know we're cheering for you! :)

You must have impressed them during your work experience there. Best of luck in the interview! I have no advise other than to be just yourself at the interview! Let us know how things unfold! (F)
