Maybe I'm just being a pessimist here, but what options do we have if for some reason our K1 isn't approved? If I go there and we get married, should we try for a K3? Or if we get married and I want to live there, what steps to I have to take to stay in the country?

That would depend why your K-1 was denied.

If the reason is bad enough, it can affect any other type of visa. Some reasons can be overcome by waivers, or simply giving more proof.

what country? you don't mention it. That would make determing what you would need to do to stay there easier.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Why do you think it will not be approved? As long as your relationship is genuine and your papers are complete there will be no problem. The visa interview is only basic questions, it's only all about you and her and your relationship. Be strong and be positive. I'm confident in our case and I'm definitely trying to be positive, but with my experience in the way things sometimes works in the Philippines, I'd feel better if I knew that we had other options. I don't know, I guess it's in my nature to to explore every avenue.
