Requesting Interpreter

Would it hurt my fiance's chances to request an interpreter at the interview? She is much more comfortable speaking her language and isn't as likely to get confused. Do they look down upon this?

My fiancee had a interpreter and had problems as things can get mixed up in the process.

Better without one. Especially in the Philippines where most speak good English. COs can question how you communicate if you don't speak her language.

That is what I was afraid of. Thank you.

How do you advise that she handles questions she doesn't understand. Sometimes when I ask her a simple question she totally doesn't understand.

I asked her "How did your fiance ask you to marry him?" She didn't understand what I meant by that. I was wanting her to tell the story of our engagement but she misunderstood. I am a little worried for her. She is shy (but sweet) and gets very nervous. Any advice would be a God send.

OOPs ! Good idea for you to go with her. USEM "normally " lets the petitioner in. Sometimes questions them also. Never know you could get lucky. A friend of mine did BIGTIME. He knew the CO from college! SLAM DUNK!!!

Also, I am going to the embassy with her. Will they let me in the room while she is being interviewed? Will me being there help? Hopefully they will take it a little easier on her seeing that I am there.

My wife just completed her interview and was asked by the CO if she wanted it in English or Tagalog. she chose English but if your wife wants to try English she can always ask that a question she doesn't understand be asked again in Tagalog for a better understanding of the question.

It is always better on a K-1 visa interview to have the petitioner there it shows support and more proof of bonifide relationship. they may or may not let you be in the booth. I was allowed at the prescreener but not the CO interview, but you can always ask the CO if you can sit in.

Well thats better if she speak english well. Just remember all the things about you so when the CO ask her about you she can answer and read a lot about experiences of others in their interview so she has idea what are the possible questions. Good luck for both of you. If others make it ...your fiancee will make it too... VJ members are always here to support u

She should get herself together and focus on passing the interview. If she can speak English and can communicate then she should be fine and yes it's a big thing that you will be there on her interview to support her.Usually, the CO will let the fiance/fiancee inside the room where the interview takes place so good luck to both of you and hopefully she'll get approved and get the visa. :)
