Ok Im really extremely confused!

Ok... So I've probably read about 20 sites saying the same about this.

I'm really confused and I really don't know anything... I live in denmark and have danish citizenship, but I was originally born in Romania, and my birth certificate is in romanian, but has an approved, translated document in danish. What problems could this arise?

Also... would a k-1 visa even be right for us? A little background story. My bf is 18 years old :) And I'm 20. We've been together nearly 3 years and we're both really sick of not being able to be together. I'm really considering starting this k-1 thing so that I can be with him for good. But how does one become a fiance? Do we have to do something? Like buy a ring or what.

Also would the weird age situation become a challenge? I don't know, but don't people in some state still get considered underage untill 21?

Also, seeing as he's only 18 and is just about to start life on his own, he probably doesn't have enough money to pass the requirments(but his family do support us and will help)... So would it be ok if he get someone from his family to sponsor us? What if I bring money of my own?

If he files for a petition and it all goes like it should... When do I come in play? What would my role be?

Can anyone give me examples on how long time this process took for successful k-1 holders?

It all sounds really hopeless doesn't it? ... I really doubt we're even eligible to apply for a k-1 but I really hope we can.

Also, please don't judge either me or him cos of the age. I know we're both young, and that we might be making a decision that's too serious. But if you knew how we felt(which I assume most of you do), no one will question or relationship and this decision.

So I will be really really grateful to any useful answers. It's nice that there's people out there who went through this :)

Birth certificate, no problem. It will have to be translated to English for the interview. The petitioner (USC) does not need it for the I-129f filing, you will need it at the K-1 interview, Copenhagen I presume.

You become a fiancee by signing the "letter of intent" he sends with his petition saying you agree to be married within 90 days of arriving in the USA. Sample letters of intent are here at this site.

It is legal in all states to marry at age 18 without parent consent. As long as both of you are eligible to marry, there is no problem with age. Yes, he can get a co-sponsor. If he has any sort of decent job he can support you himself, the requirement is about $18,000 per year, not very much. Most full time jobs pay more than that.

You come into play after the petition is approved, it is sent to Copenhagen and you go there for an interview. Read the guides and forums. The only thing he needs from you now is the letter of intent, a G-325a reporting your address and work for the last 5 years, and a divorce certificate if you were ever married before. If not, he doesn't need it. (obviously)

It will take 6-9 months usually, until you can arrive here as a K-1 holder, another 2-6 months after that to adjust status and get a green card and two years later you get an unconditional green card if you two are still married.

I really don't care about age differences. Neither does USCIS and I doubt it is any concern in Denmark. No problems.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply...

And don't worry, I do read guides and such, I just have difficulties understanding them

Then you have 6 months to leave and come to the US. Then you have 90 days to get married. (Legal at the county courthouse not necessarily a big ceremony.) Then you have more documents to file and will keep filing documents to the USCIS for many years. But, you will married and together and happy.

Good luck.

Anyway... But that means I have to leave usa and then come back? I cant stay? seems like a bit of a waste of plane tickets x_x But anyway, it wouldn't matter much to me, as I just wanna bi with him and that's all :) A little extra hardship is worth it.

I should show this thread to my bf once he wakes up so we can discuss it further.

Anyway thanks to everyone's answers :) You've helped me understand this thing a bit better.

No, once you arrive and get married, you stay at least until after the adjustment of status and green card is issued. After that you are free to travel as you wish.

Regarding evidence, you will need solid evidence you have met within two years for the petition and more that you have an ongoing relationship for the interview. Just keep records of everything, it isn't so difficult. Your fiance should have passport stamps from visiting you, along with a photo or two and his descriptiion and it is enough for the petition. Itineraries are usually not acceptable, they are not proof of travel, only proof of travel plans, back them up with passport stamps.

Well, you did not state that you are now in the US. You see we need concise and clear information to help you.

You can stay in the US, obviously with a legal Visa of some sort, for the entire process. Then for the interview, you will need to return to your country and go to the US Embassy in your country for the interview. Then you will have to wait for the K-1 Visa and then re-enter the US using that.

I hope this clears this up.

And then once you come to the US again and are married, you MUST remain in the US until you file your AOS and more importantly your AP.

If you leave the US until you have your AP in hand, you may be voiding everything and possibly preventing any future entries.

Oh i guess I really am not good at communicating.

But I'm in denmark, not in the US... I dunno what gave such an idea(im just extrememly confused as what goes where and stuff :P).

But the status so far is:

I'm a danish citizen, but was born in Romania. My bf is a us citizen... I do think he has a uk citizenship too though. hmm...

I've been visiting him as often as possible the last 2½ years, but was stupid enough to not keep my boarding passes and stuff.. I have a few though lying around... And I think I do have stamps in my passport(would those help then?)

Hmm... I will need to think this evidence thing over a bit then it seems :P Need to scrape together everything that I have.

Also I'm glad that once(if) i get approved I can stay there. I have no plans of returning back her in denmark in the near future.

Anyway thanks still for all your answers :) Although I find this website a tiny bit confusing(in regards to links and placement of guids and stuff), I will try to read up on more things. This site seems to be much more comprehensive than all the others that Ive been on.

This site is THE BEST. You will learn to navigate it. Whenever I sign on I go to the "Portals" first. It will take you to all the posts of anyone with a finacee in Denmark and you can keep up with things related to that consulate. The western Europe consulates are usually pretty easy to deal with, even most of the eastern Europe ones are.

Your fiance needs to get the ball rolling, so to speak, with the I-129f. Good luck

But there's just a little problem... Then time we spent together, we didn't really take alot of pics or anything like that :P We do have some but I don't know if it's enough...

Some will do. What's important is that there's something you can show to them of you and your guy being together. My friend got only 5 and she was approved.

The letter-thing sounds like a good idea.

Certainly it is; so start picking on some emails. Sweet and nice ones are better.

And what's a skype record?

It's a messenger just like yahoo of which you can track records and print of your chat.

Anyway luckily I've called him with my phone alot of times, and my service keeps a log online over all my calls for me, so i don't think that would become problematic.

Good for you!

The thing I'm worried about is just that we didn't really keep boarding passes n such.

The ones you still have in your hands will do. And in your other post you said you've been to the States so the stamps in your passport will be of help.

Anyway I thak you alot for you answers and Im glad you're not judgmental ^^

You're welcome. VJ had played a big part in the success of my getting a visa. It's THE BEST!

Do a Google search on Skype.

Skype is a free program that allows free video chatting over the internet. If you both have a webcam and internet access, you can Skype. (Actually if you do not, you still can just use the chat feature.)

My Alla and I Skype all the time. It allows us to see and hear each other real time.

The program keeps a log of your use, dates, times on the air, etc. I will use these as part of my evidence of an ongoing relationship.

Yes you and your BF need to get moving and get your K-1 paperwork submitted. Move quickly.

Just go through the guides several times, it really isn't that hard. You just have to read through them once or twice, they are very helpful.

If you feel like it's still confusing, take a piece of paper and write yourself (and your bf) a to do-list. That's what I did and it helped me alot (my now husband isn't very let's say talented when it comes to paperwork, I did most of it myself).

And like said above, the western European consulates are fairly easy to deal with, don't worry, start your K1!
