Hi,

Need help getting the passport clearance certificate from Ahmedabad office. Seems like this office always creates issues when getting the certificate.

My wife tried obtaining the certificate and she was told the following

1) My wife's current passport was issued before we got married and has her original maiden name. The passport office wants her to change her name so her middle name is my first name. They are being ####### about this and will not agree to issue the certificate unless she gets a new passport with the new name. How stupid is this? She asked to see the rules and they won't show it to her. All the forms we have filled out thus far have her original maiden name. If we change the name, will it cause problem during the interview? I spoke with NVC and they were okay with the name change but I am afraid mumbai will cause problems during the interview...please help..

2) The office also told her she needs the Appointment letter from Mumbai before the certificate can be issued. I spoke with NVC and they are aware of this issue. NVC said DS230 can be processed with just the police clearance certificate from the local police district office. She can obtain the passport clearance after the interview date is set and just bring it to the interview. This is not a big problem....but the office is being inconsistence since a friend of mine just obtained their passport clearance within the last 2 weeks without the appointment letter.

Has anyone had problem #1?

Please help...................

tell yr wife to bring DS-230 part-1 and approval letter and the list.. and tell her to meet the advisor and controller.. so she can show them the other name used in that form ... the second box in DS part-1, and tell her to request tht yr lawyer said to bring clearance with maiden name only.. and whatever will happen, it will be yr responsiblity.....

i had faced same problem at surat . in fact tht stupid people has not allowed me to go in office, and denied me to give clearance wid my maiden name i had to fight strongly, finally they gave the clearance on my responsiblity...

if you know any official in police or in passport office than wid their influence you can get clearance done without problem. otherwise those bloody people wont listen to ordinary people... tell yr wife to be tough with them ....

Case complete: 04-20-09

Interview date: 06-08-09

This is getting ridiculous every time I hear stuff from Ahmedabad. There are no frigging rules for a woman to change her last name and they can't force someone to do so.

I agree what K.D have said, you have to put some pressure on them, see if your wife could directly talk to the head of Passport department.
