Passed the interview today! :dancing:

As everybody said, it's a breeze. We left really early for the 8:15 appointment, to allow for L.A. traffic. But traffic was good this morning, so we got there at 7:00 am. There was a long line outside the building. Plenty of people still browsing through the booklet.

We decided to get some coffee and croissants in the coffee stall in the lobby and didn't come up until 7:45. The room was almost full of people. We realized we should've come up right away. But we brought some puzzle books and didn't notice that an hour has passed until my name was called at 8:45.

The IO was nice but very professional. I was asked to raise my hand and swear to tell the truth. There was chit-chatting every now and then. He has my 4-inch file on the desk which contains everything I've submitted to INS. He looked at our old pictures, couldn't find me in some, and commented that I looked so different now. He asked if I am still married, I said yes. "Is that him out there?" "Yes."

He went through my N400, not really quizzing me but confirming what I wrote there. I realized I made a mistake on the dates of my trips abroad when he said my last trip was in 2008. It was in 2009 - I made a typo, which he corrected.

He didn't ask for additional proof that we are still married and living together. I did include plenty of these in my application.

Lastly, he asked me to write my alien number and today's date on 4 pages of the exam papers and proceeded with the history questions and reading/writing parts.

- Who is the father of our country?

- How many years ... representative?

- Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?

- Name one war ... in 1900s.

Can't remember the other 2..

Read : Who is the first president of the US? (Or something like that)

Write : George Washington is the first president.

Then he said he approved my application, stamped and handed me the I-652 and said I should receive a letter in the mail regarding the oath-taking. He asked if I have any question, I said no. He said he has one. He opened my file and asked me who this girl in one of my pictures was. I said she's my friend's daughter. I asked "Why, you find her pretty?" He just smiled.

That was it. It took 15 minutes. Out of there by 9am and got to work at 9:45am. I wanted to ditch work, but my husband has some meetings scheduled today. He promised that we will ditch work on my oath-taking and we will celebrate with a bang :)

BTW, I didn't change my name as planned. A few minutes before I was called in, I suddenly had second thoughts about it - all the hassles involved and how to explain to my parents why I don't want the name they have chosen even before they got married:) So I flipped a coin. It was heads - I keep my name.

My interview was at 10 am today. Got to the USCIS bldg at 8:30. Went in and left my appointment paper on the try by the serving window and waited 15 minutes til my name was called. The interviewer asked to look at my greencard checked my A number and started my civic test. Questions are as follows:

1. What is the supreme law of the land?

2. How many Justices are there in the supreme court?

3. What is the capital city of the US?

4. Name one branch or part of the government?

5. What is the name of the national anthem?

The officer writes down my answers as he says correct toe ach one. Then we went to the reading and writing part. He had me read "What day is columbus day? Then he told me the answer and I have to write down _ Columbus day is on October 14. He told me that I past the test part and have me go back to the waiting area.

I waited for less then 5 minutes when my name was called again. A different officer, was carrying my file and told me that she is gonna check my test. She made me raise my right hand and give an oath. Then we went over the N-400 form that I sent in. She asked for my DL, GC, passport, SSN card, my husband's Birth certificate, our marriage certificate, tax transcripts and my daughter's birth certificate. All of these documents were returned to me after she has counter checked the data with what's on my application form. After we were through she told me that I passed and will have to wait outside for the schedule of the oath taking. I was out of there by 10:30.

Oath taking is on Aug. 19

I was done with my oath ceremony at Durham DO this afternoon. Process took only about 25 mins. I got the naturalization certificate and signed it with my full name(first and last). I then noticed that the photo on the certificate has my usual signature which does not have my last name. I had signed this photo during the interview yesterday and the officer had not asked me to sign full name on it(he did in couple other places)

I now read some posts on other forums saying the signature on the photo and naturalization certificate match. Do you guys think this be a problem?

I also went ahead and applied for passport after the oath.

Thanks for sharing your interviews wifey and liahnsilver! Sounds like they went smoothly, congrats :dance:

Congrats on your oath, raleighn400! But I don't know the answer to your question  I wouldn't think it'd be a problem.

The above is not legal advice.

It is either from research or merely my opinion.

People who applied in April are already getting approved and taking Oath. So unless you have sent it by trackable delivery method, I would consider your application was lost someplace.

Does the certification receipt tell you it has been delivered? Certified mail can sometimes take a long time to get where it is going - I had my passport go missing for over a month being sent by certified mail. If it hasn't been delivered contact the post office right away so they can do a search for the package and find out where it is. If it has been delivered, get proof of the delivery (you can generally print off online the trail of the certified package), and make an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office. Bring the proof with you and have them start to do a search for the package. You should definitely have received an NOA by this time and had your cheque cashed. What address did you send the application to?
