Hi folks, Im just looking for some feelback about something regarding the I-134. My fiance has only started working at a job in the US recently and the amount that he is earning will not be over the amount needed to be a sponser. He did work over here in the UK while he studied here. But, he does have money in a bank account which is well over the amount that is needed. To be a sponser do you need to be earning money over the minimum requirement, or is it ok to have it in a bank account? I just want to put my mind at ease! Thanks x

He will need to earn 3x the amount needed to cover the difference between his income and the poverty level needed in savings.

So if your short $1000.00 he would need $3000.00 to cover it.

(going back to the requirements for the I-864 which usually are used for the I-134).

If he doesn't have that, either get it (loan/gift/Etc..), or get a co-sponsor.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Money in the bank account needs to be 3 times the amount needed to make-up in income. Fir example if his income is $3,000 per year to little, he would need $9,000 in the bank to make up for it. When you arrive he will need to do this again for the AOS and for the AOS it needs to be 5 times the amount short.

He can also use a co-sponsor

Only needs to be 3 x for immediate relative spouses/children (5x for non-spouse).

I made that mistake too, till someone here pointed it out to me.
