Hi,

I was reading through some of the posts about the medical, and I saw something that made me worry a bit...

I have my appointment and everything ready, but I am wondering:do they keep the passport?Or do they just make a copy of it?

Thanks for your replies!

They (the doctor's office) do not keep your passport - they may make a copy but that's it. Not to worry.

Oh thank God!

Thanks a lot for your super fast reply!

It's just that I saw people saying that the hospital in the phillipines do keep the passport, so I was wondering if that was the case in Europe too.

Thank God it's not! I need to leave 4 days after the exam!

The doctor at my medical here in Croatia didn't even make a copy of my passport. He only needed my passport number from it and I assume it used as my ID since he never asked for my regular one.

When you go for your interview, they will keep your passport until they put your visa inside it. Some Embassies require you to prepay for DHL or similar delivery service, and then the Embassy will take the prepaid receipt, then ship your passport back to you with the visa inside.

I hope this helps. You can check on your Embassy's website and see about the prepaid shipping. If they require it, you will need to do it before you go to the interview and give them the prepaid receipt.

Good luck on your medical and interview.

No, they do not keep it. For my wife they used it as identification only.

you wrote you need to leave 4 days after the exam. do you want to fly to the states then? if you intend to leave belgium to move to the states youll probably encounter some issues!

when is your medical? when is your interview?

you know that the embassy will only issue your visa after they received your medical records form the doctor! and then itll take a couple days for you to receive your passport....

Yes in the Philippines , they do take your Passport when you go into Saint Lukes for your medical exam . And your passport gets put with all of your Medical Papers and test result in an envelope , and sealed . Then fowarded to the Usembassy using currier service , ours was Delbros . But i think its Air21 . And its stamped on the envelope , can only be opened by Usembassy counsel at the time of interview ( this is for privicy purposes only , of the Visa Applicant ). You can try looking on the embassy website , thats going to do your interview .

Thank you for your concern, but I am just having a layover in the States, and will not be staying there. I will go back to Belgium for my interview, whenever that is.

I haven't scheduled my appointment yet for my interview, as I am waiting for the medical to be done, and for me to have all the papers filled out properly.

I know about the 2 weeks between the medical and the interview, which is why I am waiting to send the form that says I'm ready.

Thank you!
