This brings up the topic of street meat.

I was told by everyone how great NYC hot dog carts were. Now coming from Toronto, I guess my expectations were already high because when I finally did try an NYC hot dog I was very dissapointed.

The opens vendor up this door in his cart and dips his tongs into a basin of sitting water! There was hardly any of the good stuff to throw on it like pickles and onions etc etc. It was just a hot dog... a lame floppy weiner.

In Toronto the street meat is AMAZING! They grill it for you and they have tons of things there you can put on it. Best thing you can get when you're coming out of the bar all tipsy. :P

I heard Chicago is home to some good street meat too but I have yet to sample it.

I think NYC street meat is pure #######.

Amanda, Jill and I had this conversation already before but I figure I'll start it again here.

Well, they don't call them "dirty water dogs" for nothing!! I can't even compare Toronto street meat to NYC street meat - I like them both, but yeah you can't get a NYC hot dog expecting a similar experience to the Toronto dog!

I don't plan to buy hot dogs when I move. Right now my Dad loves them so we have them in the house, but I'm not a big fan. I will most likely only get them when I'm in the city and need a snack.

When my husband does a crawfish boil- all the potatoes, corn, mushrooms, garlic, sausage, wieners, etc get boiled in the same seasoned water. It is yummy. Now when I boil them on the stove- I add lots of spice to the water- chili flakes, onion and garlic powder, cayenne, and whatever else I feel like throwing in.

Ohhh that sounds good!

Well I just took the hot dogs out of the fridge to put them on a plate as I will BBQ them - then i'm thinking, hmm, what are we having with these dog-os - yeah well some buns would be nice - I forgot the dough in the bread maker. Oh well they are on their 2nd rise now, all is well.

They are Nathan's btw, I do like the Hebrew brand too though.

Schneider's Red hots for us too. Since there is 5 of us that moved down here then the hubby we really haven't found a brand we all like. And buying Hebrew National is just too expensive for hot dogs in this house to even bother trying. So we pretty much ate alot more hot dogs in Canada then we do here. I like just katchup and sometimes cheese on mine.

I didn't really eat hotdogs in Canada (although I did as a kid), but here, Joe likes to take a hotdog bun, put it in a dish, cover it with onions, add a hotdog, then cover the whole in chili and cheese. So, when he offers to make a quick dinner for us this is one of his standards. I eat more hot dogs here than back in Canada. I'd actually prefer something like a bratworst to a hotdog though.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

The popular hotdogs here are Redondos.

TMixy, tell your sis to stay away. Gas for a lifetime. :dead:

Edit: For the first time, I just realized they say winners not wieners on the packaging. Must be pidgeon.

My husband doesn't like them so we don't buy them! It sounds funny but I'm the one who likes hotdogs but everytime we go to Costco he's the one who gets one! :) That's only because I can't have the bun!

My girl's wiener consumption increases dramatically every time I go to visit her for 3 weeks. And yes, she likes her wiener steaming hot, and extra large!

Hmmm. Wonder how much wiener consuming she does when you are not around.
