So, my fiance and I really REALLY want to have a summer wedding. There is little chance that I will obtain my K1 by then, so we were considering having a ceremony and reception without making it legal this summer. I would then return to Canada for my interview and we would get married legally after I get my visa and enter the states. Is this possible or would immigration have a problem with this plan. Please help, we want to start planning and set a date so all the family can be there. Thanks so much!!

If it's not leagal i don't see a problem. But I do know a lady that went to Morocco after her fiance had his interview, she got married legally in February 2009. They called him back to the consulate 1 week later to let him know he was getting his Visa, and then when he thought he was getting his visa on that Monday. Well needless to say, they told him that he was not going to get it because he failed to tell them he was married. You don't know who is jealous of you and what they might try to tell the consulate, and then all the unnessary investigation is not worth it at all. So my advice don't do it. Just wait until you get your visa and then plan a trip back to Morocco to have your ceremony. It's not worth it. Believe me people will be envious of you because you are getting something that they want. So you make your own decision that is just my opinion. Either way I wish you the best of luck on this journey.

I will Love my husband always and forever. We may have been delayed but I have the faith that we will be together.

I was thinking about doing this...fortunately I do not think its going to be an issue for us, but i would really discourage you from doing this! What happens if your fiance tries to enter at POE and gets denied?? but like leen said...some people have done this! I posted this same question a few months ago in this same forum, you could try looking for those responses..

like many others, I too would think that this should not be a problem.. however, there are a couple of people here on the forums (do a search and I am sure you'll find them) who have done this before.. the USCIS found out and their application has been denied even though it was not considered a real marriage...

If you want to be safe, then I wouldn't go on with it.. you can always go back half year after you entered the US and do a marriage ceremony in your country when you have the GC ;)

N400 Timeline:

12/27/11 - Received NOA

02/06/12 - Received yellow letter (pre-interview case file review)

03/13/12 - Placed in line for interview scheduling (3 yr anniversary)

03/17/12 - Received interview letter

04/17/12 - Interview - No decision, application under further review

04/17/12 - Biometrics

04/25/12 - Placed in line for oath scheduling (so I'm approved yay!)

04/27/12 - Received oath ceremony date

05/09/12 - Oath ceremony!!
