Do you guys know where I can find nutritional info, like calories and carb counts for palmnut fruit? My husband made some palmnut soup last night and it was so good! :dancing: but I couldnt eat much because I was afraid of the carb count. I know it has a lot of oil. I looked all over the web but couldnt find anything and the can of palmnut cream was a product of ghana and had no nutritional values listed. Please help steer me in the right direction. Thanks!!

hi efia! i don't know about the carb count, but i do know that palm oil is one of the least healthy oils for you. it is a lot more unhealthy than say olive, peanut or general vegetable oil- i think because of a higher fat content. however, if you're more concerned with carbs, it might work out. maybe the canned cream is healthier than the oil anyway. myself- i'm a sucker for nkatse nkwan (groundnut soup). mmmmm...

Yeah there is a bit of debate about that palm nut oil. some say its very unhealthy but others say the opposit. I found this on net.

"There are palm nut/kernel oil and palm fruit/pulp oil.

Palm nut oil is the one that is 82-88% saturated fat and considered unhealthy.

Palm fruit oil is mostly unsaturated fats, no trans fatty acids, has no cholesterol and doesn't raise cholesterol, has anti-oxidants such as vitamin E, is high in carotenoids/beta-carotene especially red palm oil, high in tocotrienols, and the red palm oil is rich in co-enzyme Q10, and is much healthier"

Either way, we dont eat it all the time but it is delicious and I was hoping for some carb info......as you can see I was surfing the net on it :) I was hoping some mamas on here who have tried it or cooked it might have some info for me..
