Hotels near Mumbai consulate

I plan on being in Mumbai for my wife's interview in April. I was wondering what hotels people recommend around the consulate?

We stayed at Shalimar...good hotel and within 10 minutes of walkable distance. Be ready to shell out around 10,000 rupees.

H Friend.....hotel near Mumbai consulate will be there but it is costly...but i suggest u can stay towards Andheri, at tht location airport is there, so u can get good hotel with cheaper rate also....

Thanks. How far is the embassy from Andheri?? I just want to make sure my wife has a way to get to the interview that early in the morning.

Mumbai train system in the morning is really a breeze, I think by taxi Andheri is around 1.5 hours away from US consulate, but if you take train at 6 in the morning, you will reach Mahalakshmi train station within 15 minutes and a taxi from there to consulate is only a matter of 10 minutes maximum.

We lived with a friend and we used train during the morning hours, and they usually are very spacious during that time.

BTW, the closest of the Suburban stations to Breach Candy actually turns out to be....Grant Rd (2 stops further than Mahalaxmi, if going from Andheri).

To go to Grant Road though, you will need change the trains at Bombay Central. Not worth the hassle. Just find a hotel close by. I still highly recommend Shalimar.

Thank CJ, I plan on staying there the night before the interview, and maybe the night of the interview as well, since I want to pick up the visa that same day from VFS

Better make plans for at least two extra days, queuedup; US Consulates are not unknown to delay send-out of visa-paper-packets.
