IRS transcripts or simple copy of tax return??

I've been getting a little nervous since I'm about to file the I-751... I've been reading that many of you are submitting your IRS transcripts which you obtained through the IRS directly. I however was planning on sending the regular copies from turbotax (you know, after filing taxes, you get copies of what you filed - and that's what I wanted to use). Would that be okay??

Also I'm sending all these things:

- Copy of permanent residence card

- Copy of our baby's birth certificate

- Copy of our 06, 07 and 08 joint US tax returns.

- Copies of our bank statements, showing joint account

- Copy of the title of our car, showing joint ownership

- Copies of various car insurance notices

- Copy of letters addressed to both of us and copies of letters, received by us at the same address

- Copy of our three apartment leases

- Copy of itinerary (vacation)

- A copy of our airline tickets from our vacation to Europe and itinerary

- Several photographs from throughout the marriage

- Copy of our Sam's Club cards on a joint account.

Is that enough??

If you use your regular tax copy you need to submit all of the attachments as well - W-2s, investment receipts, everything that goes into supporting your tax filing. It is easier to send the tax transcripts from the IRS - they're free and usually arrive within 2 weeks.

Everything else looks good. Good luck.

You have time to get the tax transcripts and apply. I think you can call 24 hrs a day and punch the right buttons on the 800#. Call now. We got ours in less than two weeks.

Good luck.

If your 90 day window just opened you have lots of time - 90 days worth. You don't have to file right at 90 days - you can file anytime during those 90 days right up to the day before your green card expires. And yes, you can order the transcripts over the phone - it is an option driven menu - it doesn't actually mention transcripts until several steps into the menu but it is pretty straight forward.

Oh Gosh You just made my night... I was honestly breaking down... I will have my husband call IRS and get the transcripts, it seems much easier than hunting for copies of our W2s :(

Thank You and everyone else who contributed!!!! You guys are wonderful!

Hi, the fastest way to get transcripts is if you have a fax machine, they fax it to you right away. I got my 2006, 2007, and even 2008 transcripts last night, as I filed my 2008 early so it was available. Took about 20 minutes, just ask the agent to fax it to you over the phone if you got a fax. Don't have to wait 2 weeks.

Yipes. Didn't know that. We filed our 2008 returns a couple of weeks ago also using TurboTax and provided instructions to have the tax payments withdrawn from our accounts on 15 April. I didn't think that our transcripts would be available until we were paid up so just submitted a copy of the TT returns, *without* the attachments. Ah well... I'm guessing there might be an RFE in our future...
