Proof of Singleness

Hi. I'm from Philippines but I'm going to take my interview at the embassy here in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday (Mar 17)

I did not receive the notice from the embassy but my fiance in the US received the copy and he just sent it to me. I've been trying to contact the embassy here but it was hard to get through. but this is not my concern...

Here, I was doing my own research and found out about "NSO Single Status" certificate. In that website she was just telling what she did when she was preparing for K1 interview (year 1999-2000) and she was in Manila. She clearly indicated that the NSO Single Status thing was only applicable if you were coming from the Philippines...............Then, that got me a bit worried because I have no proof that I am Single and Never Married!

I have no children, never married but I have no proof! Though it was NOT on my list of requirements, is it compulsory or a rule of thumb for the requirements?

If this is needed, then I won't have enough time. I would have to need 2 weeks max to process that...my interview's on Tues.

Am I just worrying too much?

Is there any other way I can prove I'm single never married?

Thank you...

i remember a similar case where a filipina also had an embassy interview in Hong Kong, they asked for the cenomar and she could not provide it since she WAS married before.

you could maybe try the Phil Embassy in Abu Dhabi and see about acquiring this vital piece of document

Thanks for the replies...I've just called the Phil Embassy here before I posted this and they told me it'll take time like 2 weeks. :(

payxibka said they didn't ask for it, so maybe there's no need? I know it would be better if I have it but if they ask for it during the interview and I can't give it to them, will that be a reason for a denial? oh God...

its ok, you should be ok, if they do ask for it, then all it will do is delay you for 2 weeks, just tell them the phil consulate told you it will take that long and that you have requested it thats all

Hi lorelie :

In my experience I thought that it will really took 2 weeks before I will receive the CENOMAR,,what I did, I go to www.e-censu.com.ph and request for my CENOMAR online,,after requesting it and you already did fill up the forms online you will submit it to NSO and then later, you will received and email that you will be needed to print (2 copies ) and bring that copies when you pay at BDO,,the NSO will not start to process that until you pay it :)

I pay on Sunday on the BDO at the mall co'z its open and then,,after 4 working days I received my CENOMAR.. proof that you are single or the NSO doesn't have a record of you getting married before..

Hope I helped a little to you lorelie :)

Good luck

Thank you Beaumench...i think im just going to take a risk not having that piece of paper...if only im in the Philippines then I would've prepared that as early as I could because from what i know it's one of the mandatory requirements in the Philippines.

:( Haaah...I'm still praying they wont ask for it.

Hi Lorelie,

We interviewed in Abu Dhabi and we were not asked for the CENOMAR. It is not on the list of requirements and not something you need to have. However there is a chance they may request it. In which case they will give you time to get the document and just have you come back to the embassy once you have received it.

Best of luck to you.

HI,

CAN YOU UPDATE US WHAT HAPPENED ON YOUR INTERVIEW? I AM ALSO SCHEDULED FOR INTERVIEW (ABUDHABI) THIS COMING MAR. 29... THANK YOU

Hi Kriszel,

That's what I'm going to do now. :)

1. I went there at 6.45am, but it opens at 7.30a. No one was there. I waited outside until 9.30am when they allowed us to come inside. :bonk: They will tell you to sit on the Immigrants line. My advice is to sleep some more then come there at 9, there was not much people. THere are benches and roof but it gets a little hot, but it's good to catch a little ray of sunlight early in the morning.

2. They do not allow more than 2 bags and mobile phone to bring inside. I brought 3 bags full of evidences I've organized a week ago and they asked me to leave 1 of it. I took out everything inside my 1 of my bags because I might need it during the interview so they ended up with an empty bag. My advice: bring your mobile phone and just leave it on the Security area where they will give you a number to claim it before you go home, at least whatever the result of your interview may be, you can call your fiance right away.

3. I was asked to go to the Cashier's window where a nice lady gave me my number (002). I thought I was going to pay anything, but she just asked for my passport and interview appointment letter. My advice: keep your Appointment Letter and passport accessible because even from outside, they will ask for it and check it.

4. Sit near the blue windows near the restrooms, Immigrant applicants are interviewed there. I was called the first time and she asked for the requirements. She didn't ask for my fiance's Salary Letter even though it was on the list of requirements as part of Evidence of Support. She just asked me to pick up some of our pictures. My advice: Make sure you put tabs with labels properly, it's for your own good. Here, they will see that you did your homework and you will be asked to sit again and wait to be called again. Good thing I did that!

5. I had a chance to sip a cup of coffee (which is not free Dhs 3) and run through my reviewer - yes i had one. My advice: right after they asked you to sit after you gave them your requirements, go to the restroom and do a quick retouch, because they will then review the docs.

6. At this time, I felt a bit shy for bringing a lot of documents but I didn't mind, I just wanted this to be over. Also, the entire room is small, it seemed like the applicants can hear my interview and it made me a little uncomfortable, but I just ignored that. It was already 11.15 when my number was called again. She (a different lady than the first) then gave me my birth certificate back and politely thanked me for bringing it there and returned the pictures. Then, she asked me to sign DS 156k at the back.

7. 3 Questions she asked me: What's your fiance's job? When did you first meet him? How did you communicated?

8. She told me there's no problem with our papers, it's very well organized and they need my passport to put the visa. She gave me a blue stub so I can pick-up my passport this Sunday (March 22) @ 2pm. They need 3 days to put the visa there, I guess.

Good luck to you!

They didn't ask for CENOMAR.

Although I see your interview date has come and gone, perhaps my info can help some others who may read this thread. :star:

I am American and my husband is Nigerian. We married in Italy. Italy required that we both provide a sworn statement of our single status. I just did some research on the internet. I searched the US consulate in Italy and looked for information on what was necessary for marriage in Italy. The single status statement form was on the website. It was one sheet in both english and italian which simply stated the following:

I (giving my name) was born at (birth place, date).

The names of my parents (parents names with mother's maiden name)

I am a citizen of United States (your country) holding a US passport bearing the number (country of passport and number) issued on (issue date).

I am a resident of (stae/province/country)

I am temporarily residing at the following address (list address)

I wish to marry (give fiance's name) of (give fiance's parents names and for the mother her maiden name)

Born (give the birth place of your fiance), on (give the birth date of fiance)

Citizen of (give your fiance's country of citizenship)

Currently residing at (fiance's address)

I am presently free to marry and there is no legal impediment of any kind to my marriage under the laws of the State of which I am a resident.

State if you are single or divorced or a widow

If single, simply state that you are single and you have never been married before

If Divorced, you need to provide evidence of the finalization of your divorce. State the date of the court recognized divorce.

If widowed you need to provide a death certificate of deceased spouse. Give name of decedant and the date and place of death.

Include a statement such as,

In witness thereof I provide my signature upon this statement

The next step depends on what country you are from.

Some require the statement to be sworn to before an embassy official who must affix a seal or stamp on the statement. Sometimes a record search is performed to make sure the person has not been married before.

The US does not have such a requirement so there was not an official form or process for this.

My husband and I printed the form provided by the US embassy in Milan. filled it out and when I arrived in Rome, I took the form to the US embassy and signed it before the official there. We then had to have it made an official document by the italian government.

I would suggest checking with the embassy or consulate in your country to see if there is a specific form for a single status certificate or affidavit of single status.

If not you may want to find out if they will accept a written statement with the above info. If so you can type it up and go before the appropriate government official with your ID or passport and sign the statement and get the appropriate legalizations.

I hope this helps someone.

The single status certificate is really just a sworn statement that you have never been married before or if you have that you are legally now free to marry.

Best wishes.....
