How ship personal items to USA

Can anyone tell me what they think the best way is to ship personal belongings from the Philippines to the USA when moving here?

I was thinking just through the post office, but wondered what is most affordable if any other way. Things like clothing, any furniture, electronics, etc.

Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't get too excited about shipping furniture, it's probably cost prohibitive.

Shipping boxes from USA to PI is around $70, with unlimited weight, and probably from PI to USA it would be cheaper.

Don't be so sure.

My wife had asked Johnny Air Cargo about the shipping of a balikbayan box from Manila to usa and it's like $160 and will take 45 days to arrive.

Joe

From Dallas to Manila it's around $60 for a balikbayan box with unlimited weight.

When I moved to Manila from Las Vegas in 2006 I paid $40 a balikbayan box with unlimited weight to send my stuff there. But the OP was asking about sending from there to USA believe me it's alot more expensive as there are few places if any to ship from Philippines to here. Lowest quote we got was $160 for a balkbayan box unlimited weight from Manila to USA.

Get a shipping comapny in the philippines. Not LBC, Johnny Cargo or Fedex. Those company that ship philippines export products to the US. Its a lot cheaper but would take weeks to deliver. Ask if you have friends who knows someone who personally work in this kind of company.

Mostly about the clothes. She has very pretty clothes, some that are her favorites, I am sure. I want her to have clothing to wear when she gets here.

I went ahead and sent 2 boxes at 70lbs each to m husband thru manila forwarders. I did not encounter any problems, save for the US customs paperwork. Boxes were picked up on a wednesday and shipped out on a saturday. 30-40 days to reach Ohio. Boxes will first go through the main office in Los Angeles and will be deliverd via FedEx ground to Ohio. I think it's like $150/box to the LA office with additonal charges outside of CA. Be mindful though that this is not a privilege for anybody...as stated on their website, it is for US residents and legal permanent residents. I would've qualified, if it were nt for my lack of a SSN which will be asked in the Customs supplementary dclartion forms. I had my husband send me all the needed forms with his signature on them, attached a phtocopy of his passport including the visa pages to prove that he was in the Philippines in hte last 12 months. You are a K3 so that if your hubby was here recently, you can send your stuff to him.

I will prbably be receiving my boxes myself.

I have looked for a company other than DHL, FedEx et al and unfortunately, i have not found any that would ship from the Phils to the US witha reasonable price. Even Johnny Air, which was going to charge me $230 to ship jsut 1 70lb box. Easier to send from US to Phils.

Oh...shippers will not accept food, pirated items, and ALL liquids (lotions, body wash, shampoos, et al), including bar soaps. I sent some of our clothes, books, toys, all-orig DVD's (they can open and check for all i care), some of my bags, too. And don't forget to put a packing list in the boxes and keep a copy of it for youself.

12-09-08 - INTERVIEW @ 6:30AM...God be with us! --- APPROVED!!!

12-11-08 - VISAS RECEIVED....YAHOOOOO!!!

04-07-09 - POE: Chicago O'hare

04-28-09 - received SSN's (after having to apply for them personally!!!!)

04-30-09 - Received our 2-year GREEN CARDS

01-07-09 - ROC, here we come!!!

01-18-11 - Mailed out I-751
