things you can do while waiting for your case number to be assigned is to download the AOS( I-864) the DS-230 and get those filled out and start collecting the needed documents. It will help you fly through NVC and gives you something to do instead of watching the mail box. That is best suggestion i can give. Review the short cuts listed on the wiki link

Hey MMW,

Excellent suggestion. In fact, the first thought I had in mind when I got approved was, "oh my god, I don't have anything ready". I had my husband mail out the signed DS-3032 to me immediately (I want to send both email and mail). I just got everything done for AOS today. And now, we're getting everything ready for DS-230. Note to everyone, PCC tends to take the longest time. So start working on that first. This wait to NVC is giving us a good catch-up time for collecting all the documentation. I echo your suggestion to everyone in getting the documents together so we all can fly through NVC :)

We got approved on the 26th Feb 09. It has been two weeks today and the NVC has not received our file !!!! I have used the recorded service and spoken to an operator. Today she told me it could take up to 90 days for the USCIS to mail it to them - Can someone tell me how do they send it - On the back of a Snail across America????

The NVC is currently averaging one week to receive approved petitions but I would certainly keep on them :). If it gets to three weeks or more, you may want to contact a higher power. Good luck!

FINALLY FOUND OUT ABOUT 10MINS AGO THAT THE NVC HAS RECEIVED THE FILE!!!!

Got our NVC Case Number!!! When I spoke to the lady at NVC, she asked if my hubby and I had email addresses so they could communicate with us via email. She said it would speed things up. !!! However, she said that she did not have the invoice number ready to give me.

Then when I called a few hours later, I thought I would go through the live customer service agent (option 5) and she advised me of the information. They received it on Thurs 12th March. Today is now Tues 17th March (in USA) (Its Wed 18th here at 3am), I just called the NVC and went through the AVR. It said that the next step was for the beneficiary (that's me in Australia) to receive correspondence and to allow 6-8 weeks. I am so confused as to whether I should get my hubby to send me his Aff. Of Supp and tax papers or does he need to send to NVC. All the guides and consulate websites say different things and I think it depends on whether the beneficiary is overseas or in the USA. Its not clear. Appreciate any help with this.

HI corinne,

If I a not mistaken, I think the first step after getting NVC case # is to , DS3032 and AOS bills are generated. Then you (beneficiary) send DS-3032, "Choice of Agent" (via email and mail has been suggested in this forum). Usually people choose petitioner here so that things go faster. Then, petitioner sends AOS.
