I did at London being able to wave a US passport will not always get you in so it isn't always an invitation.

so what good is an Embassy/Consulate compound if a USC cannot at least go inside?

Perhaps you should address that inquiry to whoever at the London Embassy makes the rules. But I am sure they make a distinction between someone needing assistance providing it isn't something for which you need an appointment, and someone who is just waving a US passport because they just want to go inside.

As some have found out on odd days for some reason just wanting to visit doesn't get you past security.

Hi all,

My wife has an invitation letter with her name on it but I'd like to join too, just to show support and help if necessary.

I know that the Embassy generally requires you to have your name on a list to be admitted though.

Does anyone know if the Embassy would let me in if I just show up with my wife for her interview?

If not, how can I get an invitation too?

Thanks in advance.

as a USC... your PASSPORT is all the invitation you need to gain entry to the Embassy/Consulate compound...

May work at some Embassies, but not all. It won't work at the embassy in Moscow. You can't get in with your spouse/fiance for the interview and there are only certain times for US citizens to enter for any other reason. I tried.

I emailed the Immigrant Visa Unit at the US Embsasy in London, using the special code in the subject header, and they said that my name would be added to the appointment list. They also mentioned in the message that I'd need my US passport.

So I guess that the safest best is to get written confirmation by doing the following:

* call the extortion info line and get the special email code

* send an email to the visa unit

* get a response that you'll be added to the list to get in.

Hope that helps.
