Hello all,

Kim and I are blessed with a little girl this past year. Now, it's time to go back to Saigon so the grandparents can pinch and kiss those chubby cheeks of her, webcam/photos can't satisfy the folks back in Saigon. Basically, tickets are booked, issued (printed). Waiting for the little one's passport to arrive from the State Dept, the obtain Visa for her. Getting the passport for our daughter was quite interestíng! Need to go to Sears Photos Studio for this "Passport Photo" which approved by State Dept. Try to do that by yourself at home, it's quite impossible since our daughter will not sit still :) Got that DONE. Went back to the Post Office, fill out forms and pay the fees. Swearing in! Done! Should have the Passport in 2 weeks ???? Nope, it's now the 4th weeks and counting. I checked my bank account yesterday, the State Dept cashed our check for the passport fee last tuesday... yeah!!!!

So here is the question for all you who are blessed with child, how easy/difficult it was to travel to VN with a little one? Share your experience, departure, in-flight, meals, baby crying, foods, sleeping, connection flights, arrival to and from. What can and cannot be brought on board. To be specific, we flight Korean Air. Stroller/Car seat's situation???

Please share and we thank you in advance!

They usually let you check in strollers when boarding, so you don't have to carry the little one through the airport.

Kevin and Tuyen,

Thanks for your reply.... My stroller comes with a travel system (stroller+carseat) Will that count as one piece?

Congratulations to Kim and Churk, have a safe trip back to VN, and enjoy the time with your family. My wife and I don't have a baby yet. I really don't know what to tell you. Just take good care of the baby girl, and good luck.

I am not a parent, but a very frequent flier. So here's how it looks from my experience.

I don't know if your child is past the bassinet stage. If not, and you can get a bassinet(not sure how you would do that, my guess call Korean and ask), then your daughter would be a lap baby for take off and landing and then you would have a bulkhead seat where the baby can sleep (??) in the bassinet for the majority of the trip.

If your daughter will be in her own seat then you would bing the car seat part of the stroller on board and put her in that. If you don't have a seat for her then she's a lap baby all the way. If there's a chance of there being an empty seat by you or your wife having the car seat in the cabin would be a bonus to be able to have her in that rather than your laps.

The strollers are typically collected at the plane door and retrieved upon arrival and made available for you as you deplane.

Your child will not sleep the whole way. Too long a trip. I think that most folks on the long haul flights are pretty tolerant of feeding, crying, and fussing. We adults would do it too if we could get away with it. :)

The pressurization may bother her. That's why the beginnings and ends of kid flights are so loud.

Be sure to bring a well stocked diaper/survival bag. The cabin crews all seem to be very good in assisting travelers with regard to warming formula/milk/food. Check the airline website with regard to what can and can't be brought aboard.

Have a great trip and don't be offended if someone like me cringes as you get close to your seat with babe in arms. I'm sure she's gorgeous and well behaved. But I still would rather be several rows away for my own peace and quiet. :crying::devil::lol:

Have flown around the world with my kids at varying ages over the last 17 years. Worst part is take-off and landing because of the pressure. Best remedy for that is to be absolutely sure to have a bottle of milk/juice/water ready and start the drinking process just as you begin to taxi or descend. By the time the bottle is empty, you will be at altitude or on the ground.

And have a PILE of patience on this very long flight. sleep in shifts with your wife so one of you is always rested and ready to entertain the baby. Don't panic if the baby cries. They do that and most people on the plane understand.

I do hope all goes well for you, because we will be doing the same thing before you know it. I can't imagine travelling to Asia with my older son. Even now that he is nearly 10 years old, I can barely imagine it. Our younger son might just be able to handle the trip, we'll see.
