I have just received my Driver Lincense (TEXAS): I notice they put a restriction P (temporary visitor status expires XX same as my visa endorsing stamp from POE), but expiry date of the license itself is fine...

Anyone else had that?

Is this because I didn't have the ACTUAL greencard yet when I applied for it? I only had passport and endorsed IR1 visa.

Thank you

I would say yes. That is good to know though. My wife just arrived her Saturday on an IR-1 visa. I guess I'll make sure she waits until the green card arrives. Maybe you can go back once you get your green card and have them change it. I'm sure they'll do it. Probably charge you $20 though.

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

Just found this article...

http://www.alipac.us/article3739.html

:reading:

Now I understand why I got a "DIFFERENT" driver license!! Definitely feels discriminatory to me...

I don't mind that they check my status for my DL, but why don't they simply issue me with a normal DL with a shorter expiry date????? And next time I go renew it they can check again about my status...

I just think it is silly and discriminatory to have a different shape and TEMPORARY VISITOR in big red letters, also because I am NOT a temporary visitor but a PERMANENT RESIDENT, just not a US citizen!!

I think it is a Texas thing only... I guess over here they feel non-US citizens are more of a problem than in WA....

I see where they are coming from, but still I think they could have handled that better, starting from the VERTICAL driver license, that looks so different from the standard horizontal one!

Normal. They put expiry date of visa on driving license. If you receive conditional GC they will issue “provisional driving license” otherwise you will be OK if you will have 10 years expiry GC. So after having GC you need to go MVC again and pay little money to get another driving license.
