Richard, meet at the embassy?

I dont think we can move that fast... but i will keep that date in mind! It would be cool to do that! Fly 1/2 around the world to meet :P

Nah... It's 1/4, just six hours difference  And yes, this would be really cool!

I asked the embassy for an interview in the last week of October and they accomodated us... Completely different approach (and I guess work ethics as well) than USCIS.

The Embassy has been a blessing to work with (with the exception of the 1st denial of Joanna's tourist visa)

Good morning everyone!! Do you want to see our "Packet 3"??? The official version?

Ok....I'm going to cut and paste it here. I LOVE those people in Brazzaville! They are supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Hi Melissa:

Thanks for your email and your call yesterday. Here are the next steps to complete Lars’ K-1 visa application:

1) Complete all Visa Application Forms

a. DS-156 Nonimmigrant Visa Application

i. Please complete this form online at https://evisaforms.state.gov/ and print it out

ii. Attach one recent 50x50 mm color id photo (the best place to get this done in Brazzaville is Suzanne Photo in front of the Mandarine Restaurant)

b. DS-156-K Nonimmigrant Fiance Visa Application

i. Form is attached to this email as PDF

c. DS-230 Application of Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration

i. Yes, you really need both a nonimmigrant and an immigrant visa application, the K visa spans both categories

ii. Form is attached to this email as PDF

2) Gather Police Certificates and all other required documentation

a. Police Certificates

i. From current place of residence(Congo-Brazzaville) and any place of residence for 6 months or more since age 16.

b. Other documentation as listed on DS-156 K

3) Complete Medical Exam

a. Instructions are attached as Word document

b. Instructions are in French, but here’s the gist

i. Select one of the two clinics in Brazzaville

ii. Schedule an Exam (Bring in ID and any proof of vaccination at time of exam)

iii. Please let me know if you need a translation of any specific point

There’s no reason you need to complete these steps in order. The quickest approach is probably to move forward on as many fronts as possible. Once everything is complete, please call us at 612-2012 or email to set up an appointment. Please don’t hesitate to contact me again if you have any further questions. I look forward to meeting Lars soon and to seeing you in Congo in a few months. Good luck getting everything together.

Best,

Chris

I am going through the I-134 with Brian and if he exceeds the minimum income requirement, do we have to add the mortagage information too or can we leave it blank? The condo has devalued so much with the economy and it kinda hurts to put it on paper!

The consulars are given wide latitude on this. It is just that, a minimum requirement. If he is close to that minimum you should look at adding assets or lining up a cosponser just in case. good luck to you

We surpass the minimum requirement quite comfortably which is why I ask about whether or not putting the mortgage info.

I did some reading last night about this and my take on it is this - I think that they want to know income ability only, not a budget. I would put the income information and leave the other assets off. I think that there is room to include the other assets if they are needed, not required. I could be wrong but......I'm sticking to this until someone says otherwise.

There seems to be a fairly strong consensus that if you comfortably exceed the minimums on income alone, there's no need to include information on bank accounts or other assets.

For what it's worth (as always, YMMV), I provided a letter of employment, the last six months' pay stubs, and my 2008 tax return and transcript with my I-134. We sailed through the interview.

Improved USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

Form field input font changed to allow entry of dates in the specified format and to provide more space for addresses and employment history. This is the 6/12/09 version of the form; the current version is 8/8/11, but previous versions are accepted per the USCIS forms page.

Then you don't need the mortgage info, just leave it out.
