"Inquiries regarding U.S. visas

The 24-hour information line is 1902-941-641. The cost to listen to prerecorded information is $1.15 per minute (cost access with variable cost options. Higher rates may apply from mobile and pay phones). You can ask to be connected to a live consultant for $3.00 per minute. Live consultants are available Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 7:00pm, Australian Eastern Standard Time.

If you cannot access 1902 services, the same information is available on 1800-687-844. This 1800 service has only live consultants, no prerecorded information. The charge is $12.00. This service must be paid by credit card at the time of the call. "

lol The thought of paying that much to talk to someone about NVC's mistake is mind boggling.

This is what NVC says regarding lost petitions :

What Can Be Done If the Petition Gets Lost?

We don't want this to happen, but occasionally it does. Files can get misfiled; shipments of visa files have been lost. Usually a misfiled petition can be located, but in an emergency an embassy or consulate can issue a visa from the computer record and an original Notice of Action approval (Form I-797) from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Give the consular section time to locate the file, and it probably will. But all is not lost if the petition is really gone. Be sure to keep all correspondence you receive from the USCIS

Wow, thats somewhat of a relief anyway. It sucks for it to get lost, but there is small comfort in knowing that you don't have to start all over again... again  Hang in there Beans! I know you've had a go of it from the beginning!!

I have a legit work related vent now. Our "Executive" housekeeper is so freaking annoying. She talks like Eeyore has to tell you all the ins and outs of what she's doing "Well I'm going to go to the rooms that checked out and strip the beds and take them to the laundry room. I am on a radio if you need me." She'll come into my work space to chat my ear off about the mundane details of her bloody job and while she's back there she'll make ME check her message folders and what not. You're already standing back there move the two freaking feet to get your own damn messages. Christ I'm not your secretary that is not what I'm on payroll for.

She comes in on her day off (today) to help one of housekeepers get ready to train another housekeeper. Empower your freaking employees, DELEGATE! I'm sure any one of them can train the other to make a bed.

And thanks Kristin lol I'm pretty sure I'm cursed by the US gov.

I wish there were sidewalks in my neighborhood. I like to go for long walks and used to go for an hour or so around my old town Oakville, there were sidewalks everywhere. I don't know what it is with here but you don't find sidewalks anywhere. Where do people walk their dogs, on the street? I don't feel comfortable walking on the street with my music in my ears, I'm afraid to get hit by a car!

Depends upon which area of Oakville you're in. Most of the older neighbourhoods don't have sidewalks. And I really like that!

So I want to take my son out of hockey, problem is he wants to stay in it. Argh why can't he choose a more loving sport... and yes there is such a thing. His coach swears at the other team, like we're talking the f-bomb. He yells at the team, well actually both coaches yell at their teams, I just find that totally unacceptable. God they're such douches. Most of the parents are douches too. I can't stand the douche factor every time I am around these people.

Ethan is getting better but there's a lot of rules he doesn't know so the coach got super mad at him yesterday, and I just wanted to tell the coach to ** off. It's a fvcking game. A GAME. Get a life.

When I was a kid I played baseball, I was on a youth league in Toronto-Greenwood and it was great. It was a little competitive but not crazy competitive... and I never got yelled at for anything.

Sorry but I put him in hockey to have fun not to get yelled at and put down. That's all he needs is someone destroying his self esteem because he can't get to a puck fast enough. Seriously.

Thats a hard one - if they love the sport you don't want to take them out, right? Is there another hockey league? I can't imagine the coaches are getting away with the F-bomb directed at kids.. thats kinda grounds for firing a coach... one would hope...

He's not swearing at his own team, Ethan just said he's swearing towards the other team. He yells at them... but doesn't swear at them.

I was told sports down in this area had a douche factor but I didn't think it would be this bad. I chose this league because it was a "beginner" league, which it isn't, and because it said minimal travel. Ethan has been asking for years to play hockey and I never let him... he had speed skating for a while in Canada, but never got around to hockey. Sorry, the speed skating was me living vicariously through him because it happens to be my favorite winter olympic sport. :P I'll admit that one.

I don't know. I want to talk to the coach and just let him know that I don't expect anything to come of out hockey for Ethan, that I am pretty sure he just wants to play for fun and that I put him in the league for fun and I would appreciate it if he not yell at him. There's a way to teach a child and yelling isn't what is going to be what pushes them. If anything it will discourage him.

I don't think that would go over well though.. the coach has a red nose, me thinks he's a boozer.

I just have to support him, this is one of those things where I can see where its going but I have to step back and let Ethan find his way. It's hard.

That's what I was going to say. Unfortunately, overly competitive coaches are more common in kids' leagues than they should be, but I would think you might at least be able to find a coach who has some patience and skill in dealing with young kids who are only just learning the game, and I'm pretty sure swearing like a sailor around 10-year-olds is not a widely accepted coaching practice.

Well I used to live in the Glen Abbey area, since it's newer there are sidewalks everywhere! Then I moved to Bronte and even around there there were sidewalks! I think I know the area you're speaking of, my grandparents lived in old Oakville and come to think of it I don't think they had sidewalks....

Maybe I'll take a little trip over to the skatezone today and file a complaint.

I think that's my best bet.

Good idea, can it be anonymous? Just because I'd be worried if the coach knew it was Ethan's Mom complaining about him he could take it out on him, he seems like that type of douche

I agree with you sister! And what's up with the lack of street lights? I'm so used to Toronto where you can walk down the street at night and see where you're going. I never even really thought about it or noticed it. Here it's so darn dark at night I can barely see where I'm going. I'm going to have to get a flashlight or something. It makes driving difficult too. I'm just not accustomed to it.
