I hate computer viruses and adware. :crying:

Do you have a virus scanner? What about a firewall? If you use Firefox, you can get an add-on called "AdBlock Plus." That helps to cut down on the ads, as well as allow you to choose which ads you want to see while blocking the others.

Reason why I love having a mac. We just don't get viruses. :D

Well... technically both MacOS and Linux can get viruses (and have before), but the main difference is the number of viruses written for both platforms is minimal. Windows has most of the viruses written for it. That makes sense, too. The vast majority of PC users have Windows, so if you're going to make a virus, you'll want to target the most people possible.

Yes its very minimal. Minimal enough that I have never had to deal with viruses ever yet my PC... I deal with them quite a bit more.

Thats not quite true. Macs are just as easy to hack and become infected as a PC. However, Macs comprise 10% or less of the total computer market. So there is less malware specifically written for Macs. Macs are just as vulnerable to proxy attacks as a PC because one of the biggest vulnerabilities is ...... a Mac program (Quicktime).

:P

I was typing and had to answer some rather bizarre questions from some woman and came back to it.

Krikit,

I'd suggest a program called Malwarebytes (link), as well as Ccleaner to fix any registry problems (link). Both are free and easy to use.

Why does Depeche Mode have to put tickets on sale for their tour this summer when I have absolutely no money to spare? :(

Who are they touring with?

They'll be at Lollapalooza with Janes Addiction this year. I am usually a festival go-er but the total lolla line up is mostly filler. I like DM and Janes but not enough for that trip.

It's not actually a tour, but a 3 day stay at the Hollywood Bowl. Concerts at the Hollywood Bowl are amazing..... great accoustics and a great atmosphere and setting.

I went to the first 4 Lollapalooza's, but then I sort of lost interest. But I see the Beastie Boys are playing it again, so I might check it out. I'd rather go to Coachella though. I've never been, but my friends tell me it's amazing. Camping, music, and alcohol, what could go wrong?

I have never been to Coachella either. My first lollapalooza was at 16 with the Pumpkins, I ran away from home to go! :P

I always wanted to go to the Sasquatch festival at the Gorge now thats an amazing venue! The scenery is absolutley stunning!

Lollapalooza, I like because its right in Grant park and has beautiful Chicago skyline as its backdrop, I love that festival though. Its really great, if you decide to go and have any questions let me know. :)

I think this year I'll be doing all points west festival if its still going on, no line ups this year jump out at me so there's no point to travel far.

Next year my husband and I are looking into doing Leeds and Reading... hopefully the lineup won't suck. I love live music.

Ok, you guys are talking about a festival in the vent thread - which makes my vent look - ventish - but nevermind!

I find people who try to use fearmongering as an incentive to do something - incredibly annoying.

I do not know why people do this - I can only imagine that they watch too much tv news, read too many papers or take it seriously when people talk about the terrorism alert codes.

I read a very interesting article in The Economist about how the U.S. government under Bush would use their color coded system to remind people of the "ongoing threat of terrorism in this country". I really hate it, but what I hate more is that people fall for it.

I've seen this used in the commercial world. My sister went to a car dealer, one of those ones who have multiple dealerships on one giant property. She wanted to get a Honda or something economical as they were starting a new family. They were trying to scare her into getting a $50k car instead, telling her that it was safer and saying things like "you can't put a price on the saftey of your family".
