Wow there are alot of vents lately, so I better throw in one of my own! LOL

My vent is about this ####### weather. So 3 of my girlfriends are on their way to see me, they should be here in a few hours!! They are staying until Sunday. Anyway tomorrow when I get home from work, we're supposed to go into the city and do sightseeing, and then Saturday take the train to NYC and spend the day there. But of course there happens to be a "noreaster" that has arrived and is staying for the next 3 days, constant rain, cold and wind. It's not gonna be fun doing outdoor tourist activities in this damn weather! And last weekend was so warm we had the AC on, now we have the heat on! It sucks so bad, I have to think of other stuff to do indoors.

That sucks - maybe go shopin for raincoats and umbrella's and then head on up to NYC! That;'s awesome that they're coming to visit though

The rain won't be your only problem up here...It snowed my entire way home from work today :/ This thing is nasty. It's very cold and damp.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

:crying: SNOW! #######! Yes I'm tres excited they are coming all the way to see me, it's so great of them! They took 2 days off work, and are super excited to visit me. So I was looking forward to showing them around; they want to go see the liberty bell and the art museum where Rocky ran up the steps.

Huggles needs huggles!

I caught a cold... its pretty rough too. I'm assuming its from this strange CO weather. One day it was 85, the next day it was snowing... then I went to pheonix and came back to icy conditions. I'm not used to this up and down weather stuff.

To make things better Bill isn't home from work yet. I hate it when he works this late :(

Today's vent:

I waited until 8:15pm to see my doctor today (my appointment was at 4pm), for him to spend ten minutes with me to tell me that I've developed Alopecia and need to get it addressed asap.

His parting words were: "We'll call you with your appointment to see a dermatologist in about three-four weeks."

Asap, eh?!

The weather is freaking miserable: cold and rainy and windy and gray. Awful.

Florida has 90 degree weather. I want to be home.

I'm sorry you have a cold, Huggles. Seems everyone is sick right now, almost unavoidable. Here:

Still take them,Jill. Jsut bundle up!

NYC is still awesome in the cold and rain! It's a magical city :)

Actually funny thing, tonight when I was leaving work, there was NO ONE, not a soul standing around the Charging Bull near Wall St. I work in the building across the street and it is always FULL of tourists all day long. Apparently, the cold and rain scared them away today!

Watch me get flamed for this comment, but...

If the U.S. would stop allowing our doctors to be stolen, there wouldn't be such a damn shortage in my area.

New doctors to the area only ever accept patients that don't currently have doctors, that's how bad it is. So, I get to bite my tongue and be happy I have a doctor to see (I guess) and wait until I have a ten minute waiting period to see a doc in the States but have to pay out the ####### for it.

good luck getting that ten minute waiting period in the US! I generally have to wait a minimum of an hour - often more - to see my doctors - and it is almost impossible to get an appointment the same day - or even the next day. I need to make my annual physical 4 to 5 months in advance because that is the first available date. If I have a medical problem that needs a doctor's attention and it can't wait several days until an appointment is available, I get to go and sit in the waiting room for several hours along with all the others with no appointments on the off chance they can fit me in somewhere. I wait longer to see a doctor here than I ever did in Canada - and yes, I get to pay for the privilege. Don't believe the US propaganda that they have the best health care going - their system is seriously broken and most of them just seem to know it because they have nothing else to compare it to.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

My rant? Jobs. No, I don't hate mine. For that I'd actually NEED to have one.

PART ONE

I've been in Canada for over a year (about one year and two months) and even though a small part of that time was waiting for my SIN card, the rest has been desperately trying to find work. No one is hiring. I haven't been picky, either. For example, I've applied for stockroom work at London Drugs. That's hardly the most celebrated line of work and I was TURNED DOWN!

They partly explained their decision by stating I'm "overqualified" for the job. They said I wouldn't stay if a better paying job came around. Of course I'd jump ship if a better position and higher paying job came up, but who wouldn't? Let's be honest -- who actually makes a career out of being a stockboy? They have to know that applicants to that line of work are temporary at best.

Another part in their decision -- although they never outright said this to me -- was that I "failed" their online exam. London Drugs makes you take a test online in which you're presented with five options ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree with neutral in the middle. I answered "neutral" to some questions. Life isn't black and white and sometimes different situations call for different solutions.

I guess they didn't like that.

My problem with tests like these is that they're inaccurate. Who is going to answer "yes?" when given a question like: "Would you steal supplies if you could get away with it?" A moron maybe, but 99.9% of people will answer "no" and to make matters worse, most people know how to beat these tests. All you do is answer in such a way that presents you as the ideal employee. In other words, you tell them what they want to hear, even if you're lying through your teeth.

PART TWO

I've been volunteering as a teacher at the local community center. I teach people how to use computers (i.e. MS Word, image editing, e-mail, the Internet and believe it or not, Facebook and Twitter). While that's enjoyable, it doesn't pay the bills. I asked the volunteer coordinator if there were any local city jobs (the community center is paid for and operated by the city government) and he said, "No." I got an e-mail tonight from someone recently hired and brand new to the community center, who has apparently taken over the job of the old coordinator (who was moved to a higher position).

She seemed nice and all, but... how did she get hired if there no jobs available? The only answer is that I was fed a lie. I suppose they want to keep me as a volunteer. If they didn't want to hire me or there are some sort of prerequisites necessary to work there, I would've appreciated being told that. Getting lied to and then expected to keep volunteering there is a bit insulting.
