The Vent - Part 2

so... my vent for today is having to work on freaken Thanksgiving.. and I'm the only one in the office. I don't even make enough money for it to be worth it... but hey... the clients need their f'ing deadlines met and decide to send twice the work to be done in 1/2 the time, so here I am.

Screw the f-ing clients and their f-ing deadlines I say!

 I agree with the above statement.

I've had obscene amounts of overtime this year for a client who doesn't care at all (or pay extra for my overtime).

I don't get anything from my company for the overtime either, but my boss has been _very_ lenient on my "work out of the office" aka "work at Peachey's house" this year too.

So I can't complain too loudly.

Cept about that friggin call I got at 10pm to fix servers in Kangaroo land... was on that call till like 3am and had to go in the next day. ><

yeah i feel like i can't complain either because I was allowed to take August off to visit the fiancé... I feel like my coworkers are still giving a bitchy vibe about that too. lol Our work comes in on such a random basis that we're either completely understaffed, or some of us are running out of work. blah!

24 hr support makes me angry. Our company claims to have it, but luckily my position doesn't include the 10pm calls. lol

I hate how much the halls in this apartment echo.

All I can hear right now is someone very, very loudly vomiting.

It's so gross I feel like throwing up myself.

I had to put my earbuds in so I could stop listening to it <_<

Its been a little while since I've vented so I apologize if this is long and whiny!

So my inlaws have two dogs, a year old golden retriever and a 12 year old cockier spaniel. I love dogs, despite being allergic to them, but I never had one growing up. Due to my allergies it just didn't sense to have one running around the house. Well now I live here in the US with two! They tell me to let them play outside most of the day so I'm not around them too much and trigger my allergies, but its so hard! They sit at the door winning to be let in. When I'm sitting down in the basement the golden Zeke puts his nose in the window grate and whines at me! The problem is, he is absolutely insane. I love him and he's adorable, but he has no discipline at all. He jumps up on me and literally knocks me into walls. He licks me all over and makes me sneeze like crazy! He even bits my hair, thinking its some kind of toy. The dog is just insane! So I feel bad and let him in. He goes nuts and knocks me around like a rag doll... I don't have any experience with dogs so I have no idea what to do with him to make him get off me, and I'm such a pushover I can't just leave him outside and ignore him all the time because I feel like a bad person.

To be even more annoying when he's outside he whines to come in. When he's inside after a few minutes he whines to go out. Its like dog... what do you want from me here? Right now he's barking at something and I'm thinking the neighbors hate him because someday he doesn't stop for hours. He needs some kind of obedience training but everyone keeps saying he's fine and he'll grow out of it. Really? How do I deal with him?! I don't know anything about dogs or understand how to interact with them.

No, he won't. Bad behaviour just gets worse. I'm not really a dog person, but I sort of successfully dealt with an 8 month old bulldog boxer cross for a week before i made my sister find him a new home (she somehow thought it would be great if I could look after him while she was at work. He weighed ten pounds less than me). This dog sees YOU as below him in the pecking order. With my ex it was the same way with another dog, who would sit on her 5'0 frame whilst on the couch.

I hate to say it, but start by watching the Dog Whisperer or some such show. Start to educate yourself on what "calm assertive" means. Dogs need rules and limits in order to behave appropriately. Dogs WANT a boss. Don't be afraid to be mean (not cruel), meaning don't give the dog an inch. The dog will eventually learn. If the dog gets aggressive with you for trying to change boundaries, then get help, it needs to be trained. Your family can't ignore if you say he's snapping at you or otherwise being mean. Usually a whole family needs to be in on training a problem dog.

And yes this dog sounds like a total handful.

________

My own vent:

I wish someone would rent this f**kin apartment already, it's almost halfway through october and I can't afford to pay the entire rent because my sister decided getting another apartment would be way more fun than ensuring any previous obligations were closed off.

And why does everyone have a dog?? And furthermore, why does my landlord insist on not allowing dogs? The backyard is HUGE! It's perfect for a dog.

TRAWR.

KnJ is right Huggles. The dog will NOT grow out of it. It will only form bad habits that will become worse once it's really full grown and adult (which it's not, at a year). It needs training NOW. I had a dog growing up, and also had a dog for a couple years recently, and we took him to training class. It helped a LOT. I'd google some puppy training stuff and see what you can find. The importance is also consistency. He has to be treated the same by everyone. If ANYONE caves to his barking or whining, then training will be less effective. A jumping, biting, barking dog is not a good thing. It won't behave without knowing what good behaviour actually is, so he has to be shown. It's always about rewarding good behaviour, and ignoring bad. Don't give him extra attention when he's whining or barking, because in his mind that means he wins. Reward him when he's calm and quiet, and minding his own business... and also don't let him get bored, if you can help it. lol

Most of my purchases were either from my debit card, or my one credit card - which I paid off every month.

Apparently, this too is a mistake, as I never really cared about limits or anything - they looked at the amounts going through my credit card (sometimes I'd buy computer equipment - sometimes work stuff and get reimbursed) and see that I had a high ratio of balance to limit.

This also lowers your score - or at least the likelihood for getting a loan. If you don't have any loans for your "debt", it's my understanding that you should at least have three credit cards. And use them at least once a month - even if it's for 5 bucks.

I know, it sounds retarded to me too. But, following my money guy's advice I raised my credit rating from not so good, to good. Working on the "really good" level.

*edit*

I'm glad it worked that way for you TrailMix. =)

Just figured I'd share my two cents for whatever it's worth. Sometimes a little debt is very good.

It's interesting that you mention the high balance part - when I got my credit report it said something about high balance and i'm thinking whatttttt - well I called the bureau and they explained to me that they take a snapshot of your balances periodically - so even if you are paying them off every month, say you have 5 thousand on there today and they take a snapshot - it looks high at that point so that is what they report.

However, when taking out a mortgage you have to report each credit balance, so if they are low or zero at that point that's good - the credit bureau's 'report' for that portion is really - useless.

My in-laws dogs are like that too, I literally cannot stand them. They are smaller dogs, but they bark constantly and are poorly behaved. They NEVER walk them, EVER. They just let them out back to go to the bathroom. I think it's wrong if you have dogs and don't walk them, even smaller dogs need daily exercise. Some people shouldn't own animals. I actually don't like going over because of their dogs

Yeah, the part I really don't understand with people who over-stay "unintentionally", is at what point do they realize what they did was wrong? Like when they tried to open a bank account without a SSN or get a driver's license. They didn't pause at month 2-6 to say hmmmmmmm perhaps there is a procedure in place that I am supposed to undergo so I can start life here formally. I mean, 2 years to claim I really didn't know better and didn't know it was wrong, seems pretty incredulous! But there are some people who are just that slow.

But alas, let's not relive that thread. I think Hermana Len summed it up for most of us.

She admitted that she knew that there was a process, but because of circumstances, they were unable to file. Seriously? You should go back to canada then and save money. Marriage is serious business you know?

It's hard on all of us, but we do it the right way and make it work. Then someone comes along and trys to play the sympathy card and get advice when they admit they are illegal all this time, and acts surprised when we all get pi$$ed.

The person just continues to post the same thread over and over again trying to find some sort of justification for what she did.
