As far as I know for Vancouver beans, it's the consulate who sets the interview date. Have you tried emailing them? I emailed them and let them know I was in a time crunch as I needed to buy tickets etc, and could they inform me of my interview date as soon as it had been set. It was very easy and they usually email back within 2 business days. Their email address is: vancouverk@state.gov. Remember, when emailing them you need to have: Attn: K visas VAC2009.... (whatever your file number is) in the subject line. Otherwise they won't look at it. I learned that the hard way! Good luck. They were pretty quick when we had our interview. Hopefully they're as quick now!

i WOULD EMAIL Vancouver AND tell them the mess you had to go thru (paperwork sent to australia) they may take pitty on u and express everything

Yeah good point flames

on the bright side--vancouver is normally pretty fast

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I agree! Unfortunately my manager is... not the nicest lady on the planet. It just bothers me that I wasn't given common courtesy when I've worked my butt off for them for 4 years! I constantly cover shifts when people call in sick or fail to show... just last week I covered 3. I'm the only person who does that. Oh well, karma is a b*tch.

Exactly. She's shot herself in the foot. She has two weeks to stew in the fact that now, when she gets her no-shows, she has no one to call. And you're free of a nasty manager. How sweet is that?

Yeah, don't be surprised if she calls you

Hey Huggle, since you are briefly glancing at houses - one other thing to know, regarding prices - is something called a 'short sale'. There are quite a few out there and the prices are misleading - here is basically how it works:

1. You see a house that has a great price - say 150 thousand on a house that might normally list at 200 thousand

2. In the description it will say something like - this is a short sale or sale price may not be enough to cover all costs

It's a nice realtor trick. Person is having trouble paying their mortgage or wants to move quickly. The realtor MAKES UP A PRICE! and posts that. So say you come along and offer the full 100 thousand - the owners then have to go to the bank and try to negotiate their mortgage down and ask the bank to accept your price.

This can take months and of course there is no guarantee the bank will go along with it.

Just a funny little scenario that I thought you might want to know about.

Plus - it is a grand time to be buying a house, with the tax rebate and all, but I understand that you have other expenses right now.

Yep, exactly! She's created her own troubles! The sad thing is that I never work with her, she works weird shifts (6-2) and I work 3-11 all the time, so the people she is hurting (besides me of course) are my two supervisors who now have to try and figure out how to fill shifts with me gone. Since I've been there for 4 years I'm first on the call list, and they always know I'll come in for them. I talked to my one supervisor yesterday and she's very mad on my behalf... she started calling her some nasty names out loud where everyone could hear. So I'm hoping that she at least says something to let the manager know how badly she screwed up! I've thought of calling the owners or calling Timmies head office but what good would that do? It wouldn't benefit me any... I'm not sure I can be that malicious. Two wrongs don't make a right.

I am in Ontario but I doubt there's anything they can do... I'm technically a part time worker so my hours aren't absolute... She keeps me just below the cut off so I can't get health benefits. What a nice woman...

As far as the house goes, its just a messed up market! I can't get my head around it all. I'm also very surprised that we found a gorgeous house that's virtually worthless with a continually shifting foundation and it was never disclosed in any of the listings we looked at! Its sad we had to actually contact a relater to get this information for us. I'm feeling like you can't trust anything you read. I've decided to put the searching off for quite a while... If we live in his parents house for a while, although I'm not looking forward to it, we can save up a lot of money. With a really strong down payment we'll be able to get something we really want instead of looking at all these lemons that disappoint us when we find out the truth about the house, the listing, the price, the location... whatever it may be. Looking for a home around a big city is not easy! Location is everything. There are so many nice neighborhoods, and there are so many terrible neighborhoods. As someone who doesn't know the area very good yet I can't conduct a proper search because I just don't know! I need to realize that I'm young, I'm unemployed, and I can't have the world right now. Its a hard pill to swallow but from here on out I'm going to give logic a try.

Soo.. I'm still fuming about the frozen juice that I found yesterday at a local Stop & Shop that was very clearly marked "natural", but when hubby looked at the ingredient list it had HFCS as the #1 ingredient.. you know what... that really makes me mad... WHY does the US accept HFCS in almost every piece of processed food on the supermarket shelves...

It's one thing that most processed food have sugar in them.. I get that.. but I have sugar at home in my cupboard and if I was making a recipe from scratch that is what I would use.. but WHO has a big old vat of HFCS in their cupboard ready to use whenever they want?? At LEAST you can buy MSG at the store... but you can't with HFCS - it's a chemically altered "natural" substance, so WHY in the world is is allowed in all food groups here in the US..

I know the answer of course.. a strong corn lobby.. www.sweetsurprise.com but it's REALLY irritating to me...

This isn't really a vent. I'm really worried about my cat though - she hasn't been eating or drinking properly for a couple of days and she is mostly sleeping, which is not that unusual - just sleeping more than usual. Have booked her in to see the vet tonight, my Husband will take her over there.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard
