So I had a job interview yesterday, it went really well. 15 minute drive from home too, which is excellent. So today I got an e-mail from the manager saying they are interested in going further with me, and therefore I need to submit to an online aptitude test. Sure, no problem. I finished it a bit ago, and it made me feel SO DUMB. There were really hard math questions, like algebra and calculus. I never excelled in math in school, and I'm not applying to be a math teacher! I am applying to a customer service job, where little math will be required. There were also these dreaded other questions involving ratios and percentages, just hard ones. Anyway there were multiple choice questions too, like "Have you ever wanted to punch someone in the face" yes or no. "are you an agressive person" yes or no. It took about an hour, and now I'm thinking if I did poorly on the math section they won't consider me anymore. It just sucks because not everyone is good with numbers but good in many other ways. I did well in University and consider myself average-smart, but no genius. Anyway this test SUCKED!

I had to take this massive test and questionaire to work for the police. They ask questions like "have you ever done drugs". I was honest and just had to explain how, when and how often. I learned later that if you say no to that question, it is like a red flag. It won't disqualify you, but they tend to look a lot more closely at your other answers.

So I think I got food poisioning sometime yesterday....What a nice end for a trip to Vancouver.... :ranting: It was either the EggRoll and Fried Rice @ the Harbour Centre in Vancouver or the Chicken Caesar Salad at Montana's at the Calgary Airport. Just an overall horrible way to wake up in the middle of the night, mother nature has the worst way of suprising you! :girlwerewolf2xn:

Those tests are constructed really carefully actually. The questions seem silly but believe it or not, they can really tell if someone might be a poor choice for an employee. Jared has had to take them multiple times in the same company when he moves from position to position.

i have my fingers crossed for you jill!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Why is saying no to "have you done drugs" a red flag? Not everyone has tried drugs.

I understand working for the police, there would be more scrutiny. Just the position I applied for, some of this test seemed really irrelevant.

It is a red flag because in this day and age, there are very few people who have never even tried it once.

Like amanda said, the test is very carefuly worded and constructed. They will cleverly ask you a question, and then 20 pages later, they rephrase the question and ask you again. They aren't simple yes or no questions either.

Yeah I love those 'repeated' questions

From what you have said Jill, I can understand what you mean that a lot of it seems irrelevant for the position you have applied for, however we must keep in mind that they probably think they are nifty keano for having such an irrelevant test!
