I just received this information from the Atlanta Canadians Group on behalf of the Canadian Consulate General and thought I would share it here:

Avoid the Rush! Apply for Your Passport Today.

Starting June 1, 2009, a U.S. law will require Canadians to present a valid passport or other acceptable document denoting citizenship and identity to enter the United States by water or land. U.S. law already requires Canadians to present a valid passport to enter the U.S. by air. If you do not have a passport, now is the best time to apply. Ensure you have your passport when you need it, apply now and avoid the rush. Remember, the passport is the recommended travel and identification document for all Canadian travelers.

Avoid delays. Pre-screening is now available in Atlanta.

To avoid unnecessary delays in processing time, have your application checked through the pre-screening program at the Consulate General of Canada in Atlanta before sending to Canada.

I was just looking at my expiration date on mine. It expires in June, so I'm going to have to send it soon for renewal. I'm just not sure when I can do it. I was thinking about a trip home for Easter. I haven't been home for about a year and a half

I will also have to light a fire under my entire family to get their passports. I've only been bugging them about it for oh...5 years or so.
