I gotta thank all those who said "Not us" to all the tantrums, threats, and running away stuff. It would be really worrying if that was the norm. If that happens with my fiancee and I that would be a deal breaker. To me that means that, as much as I love her, either she isn't ready for marriage or we're not right for each other. We've been through a lot together, and I think she's too mature for all that. I've seen some of the minor cultural stuff in our 4 months together, but I can't even imagine some of the more severe stuff. I sure hope I'm not wrong.

My wife is a Christian, and niether of us would run away from a marriage. She is an orphan, and doesnt have other family. She may miss friends though, but she lived in other countries for extended periods of times and adjusted well. She developes cross-cultural friends easily. I have seen the silent treatment, and her distancing herself for a time when there is conflict, but she is very direct. She tells me EXACTLY what she thinks and wants.

LANGUAGE

this is a particularly interesting topic to me, as a military linguist, the interesting interpretation the filipinos make on the english language. it is endlessly interesting to hear the pronunciation and misuse of our language :D

well, i have to honestly say that there are times i misinterpret my husband's use of words. he'd tell me, "that's english." fine.

however, i wouldn't use "shut up" loosely, you know?

i even used to feel bad when he'd give me responses like, "i don't care" or "it doesn't matter"

well, i still do, but i am beginning to learn that when he replies with "i don't care," he just means, "whatever, you decide" and "it doesn't matter" actually means "whatever is fine"

the p-f syndrome and the wrong pronunciation of the vowel sounds are what my husband and i have coined the "filipino tourettes"

i am fluent in english as it is my first language, but i have to admit, sometimes my filipino tourettes acts up :-P

and to add to your list:

toll is pronounced as "tall"

menu is pronounced as "meh-NOO"

and for some reason, x-ray is pronounced as "x-tray"

When I hear "making lambing", it means the wife wants something, and it is going to cost me! <_<

this is something my husband would say! but i am so guilty with this one LOL!

  • 2 weeks later...
i have forwarded this to my mike, and we'll see..

Silent treatment, im good at that.. The sad part is so is my husband. SO one time we got into an argument, so instead of me arguing more (i kinda got tired of it) i just fell silent, so he did too and when we are about to sleep, he wants to sleep in the couch (talking about childishness) so what i did i got my MALETA and started packing my stuffs, so he said wwwwait, what are you doing? i was like isnt it obvious? why would i want t stay here when you dont even want to sleep beside me..i took all my jewelries and my money and said ill just sell my jewelries so i can pay for my ticket going home and if i owe him more ill sell my car and stuffs in the philippines).. boy he wasnt happy lol ( who would be)

We werent married at that time i think i was just here for like two weeks.. and it never happen again.. :D

so im just saying its not just the girls who are doing the silent treatment..

:D

Your insights of American- Filipina relationships is quite good. And you imply your observation about philippine culture and attitudes..And its true and i think its normal that filipina got hot sickness or nostalgia of going to other country they did not used to go..And about, having a good relationship or to have a good relationship you must share each others thoughts, ideas, dreams, feel secure and comfortable in each others company.Give and take relationship as what they said, understand, respect and above all these adjusting and acceptance will be good to have in each relationships. And sudeenly you can ask yourself why you do all of thse?the called TRUE LOVE shows.... :star: ..

And about that LAMBING, for me lambing is the action of a person, that she/he wants your attention..he/she needs you attention..includes:she/he will kiss you even without reason, hug you... and lambing can be used also if she/he will ask something or anything from you....(hehehehe)
