Staying outside of the USA for more than 6 months

How can I do it as a greencard holder? My husband is in the airforce and there will come a time when he will have to be deployed. I do not want to stay in the US during the time he is gone (he is the ONLY reason I'm here and would go insane if I was left here without him) and would rather go and stay with my family. How can I do this without losing my greencard? I would still have a house (on base) and everything else tied to the US, just that I will be going home temporaraly due to the fact that my husband would have been taken from me to fight a stupid war. You'd have to apply for a Reentry Permit stating how long you'd be away for. I dunno the details about it but you can find info on reentry permits around the forums, I am sure.

Not sure, but you might want to look at physical presence in US requirements IF you're planning to apply for citizenship, too. We wanted to live back in Ghana for a year or two but after we looked at that decided not to b/c of the problems it might create for O when he applies for citizenship.

As a PR, you have to be on his orders and if you're on the base that counts as being in the US. If he is deploying for 12 months, consider doing the N400 based on 319(B).

Otherwise you would need to get the re-entry permit.

BTW, if your husband is deploying in the near future and you're in the time-frame to remove conditions, make sure you put "pending deployment to XXXX (whichever country)" on your cover letter for I-751 - fresh info from US Military Line.
