CSC RFE.

Well, just got our lucky letter of RFE from CSC. Applied on 29 of December.

What's ironic is that I would REALLY rather have an interview, since we live on the same street and literally FIVE MINUTES of walking from where the Department of Homeland Security building is, where we had our AOS interview in downtown Los Angeles.

This is really frustrating to me that they would want more from someone our age. Why don't they just walk 5 minutes down the street and see us if so?

We are in our early 20s so we didn't have much. But here's what we sent:

1) Various photos of us together including us at recent wedding of my wife's brother.

2) Joint tax

3) Joint car insurance.

4) Joint electricity bill

5) Joint lease.

6) Letters adressed to both of us and seperately

7) Two affidavits from my wife's mom and our friend. (not notarized)

I might have missed something.

My question is.. We pretty much sent everything we've got. The only thing I can add is the new lease (just renewed it this week), and a recent medical bill for this address in my wife's name.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Do you have any joint bank accounts or joint credit cards? The bank provides letters stating when you opened the account etc. What about health insurance or life insurance or beneficiary of last paycheck at work (in case of death)? Any plane or travel itinaries of trips you have gone on together? Copies of ID or Driving license cards showing same address? Paystubs from work showing same address (highlighted)? Any family plan for cell phone?

Did you only send one copy of electricity bill? You can print up copies from several months over the last two years. Ditto with the bank statements and credit cards if they show both names on it.

You can also write a statement detailing that you are young and why you don't have more paperwork in both names.

We tried to get a joint bank account, but it's impossible because my wife's credit is terrible. Citibank flat out refused to get us one, so we never tried again. She never had a credit card, and I just got my first one a couple of months ago. As for health, my wife is on her parent's health plan, and I get mine through work. As I said, we are really young. Should I write about all those reasons in my RFE statement?

One suggestion: whatever you're going to send in, the first sentence of the cover letter should be like this: "We live literally 5 minutes walking distance away from you, so Immigration Officer who is reading my file right now, please come down and see for yourself, you're always welcome to stay for dinner."

I am not up on the banking industry today, but I was under the presumption that if you went to the bank and deposited money, they would give you a joint checking or savings account. The only thing I am aware of them checking your credit, is if you tried to get a loan. I would go to another bank with $50 or $100 and open up a joint account. Just my opinion.

Yes it could probably be done at another bank, but it would not serve any purpose right now. He has to get the RFE sent NOW and they want proof from the last two years.

Exactly. If were to make one now, it would just look sketchy and desperate.

I disagree. Anything is better than nothing. You can get a checking account and/or a savings account. Write a note about why you did not have one before and now you went to another bank. You can get the account(s) tomorrow. The account(s) would at least prove that you are still married and co-mingling your assets.

Read through this section and see what others have submitted. I made a long list and then sent what I had. Pictures, another affidavit or two, life, health insurance, etc.

I know you can do this and overcome the RFE and proceed forward. Good luck.

I would also use any current and past lease documents... If both your names are there, then it should work.

About the notarized letters, I am not sure what difference it makes, but as I remember it, they do request them to be notarized.... We had ours done.

I do not think an affidavit needs to be notarized. We did have ours notarized. It just proves the person signing it is who they say they are. Just another step. It proves that you did not write them and sign for someone else. Our notaries check the DL of the one signing the document. There has been a lot of discussion about affidavits. Send some, not send any. Notarized or not notarized. Some say two, some say more. We sent five and they were all notarized. I had rather send more than less.

Don't forget to resubmit everything you've send before, sometimes they misplace documents and then just send an RFE. Add some more notarized affidavits of people who can state they know you two as a couple.

I am afraid I'll be down the same road as you and am waiting for an RFE myself, we're also young and broke, and since Puerto Rico is even more informal even our rent lease doesn't look too official to state we both signed it, we don't have any insurance together and since I'm not working we never put a joint bank account for us, I just have an authorized ATM card from his account. Our car was given to us by my in law and it's his name. So we pretty much have out taxes filed jointly and stuff addressed to both or either of us, affidavits and our visa credit card, which is the only thing we did do jointly as soon as we could.

This sort of topic makes me nervous about receiving an RFE as well, and just like you, I have no further evidence than what I've already submitted.

Oh yes, we also don't have kids yet.

Is everyone including the Social Security numbers of the people giving the Affidavits? I am afraid to ask my friends for their SSNs, it seems very personal info to ask!

Put full name, address, date of birth, and where they were born. No SSN. I didn't have any problems with this information. They wrote two paragraphs about knowing us, how they met us, when they met us. How great we were as a couple. Then we got them notarized.

We do have the lease, and we just signed a new one last week. We'll submit that. I don't have the first lease we had from over a year before, but we did submit it with our AOS application so it should be on our file. I'll mention that in my statement.
