hey guys, im in the process of my CR-1. however, im kinda worried about the I-864 when it arrives. im still a student and dont meet the income requirement. im going to use my mom as a joint sponsor but she doesnt meet the income requirement either. shes about 10k short, so im going to use the asset for the remaining balance. so im looking at around 50k worth of asset. im going to put the house in as an asset. did any of you guys use this method? did it work out ok? also, she never met the income requirement for the past 3 years, about 10k short every year. but she do file for tax and everything. so is this going to be any problems you guys? im kinda stressed out over this for the past 6 monthes. im worried that the petition will be approve and everything but in the end, she wont be able to come over because of the income requirement.

As far as I know, you can either get another co sponsor to meet the minimun requirements which is alot easier too. Yes you can add your assets as an additonal income as long as it is solid. For example, savings account, if you owned a house, anything pertaining to any type of finascial support. It will RAISE some red flags though but hopefully it will help. If you follow the instruction there are lines there where you can add additional assets to be consider as a finacial evidence. My advice is that you get a Co-sponsor who is eligible to sponsor your husband and his own dependents (if he has any!) not sure about the assets but there's some regulations when it comes to using the assets can't recall it right now...

Assets may supplement income if the consular or immigrationofficer is convinced that the monetary value of the asset couldreasonably be made available to support the sponsoredimmigrant and converted to cash within one year withoutundue harm to the sponsor or his or her family members. Youmay not include an automobile unless you show that you ownat least one working automobile that you have not included.

The whole point of the affidavit of support is to make sure the intending immigrant doesn't become a public charge. If you can't afford to support your spouse and don't have a co-sponsor to step up, then you're not ready for marriage to a foreigner. No money, no honey. Of course, you're free to change that by getting a job.

If you don't qualify and don't have a qualified joint sponsor, a CO will never see your case file or your spouse because the file will never leave NVC.

Hard problems usually require hard solutions. If you're not ready to make the hard decisions, then you will not be reunited with your spouse anytime soon.
