I would really like to hear from anyone who opted to pick it up at the embassy personally. It's either that or I will have it delivered to my cousin in Manila or have him go down to Delbros and get it. We are tenatively planning on going to Cebu then Ozamiz after the interview to say our goodbyes, then back to Manila to hopefully get the visa handed to us

I saw that post on WOF (www.TheWorldOfFilipinas.com). If we could get it in one or two days, I would prefer actually just to get back to the US as soon as possible so I can use my time off from work to spend with my wife. We will surely go back within a year anyways. I'm guessing my wife will be homesick, plus I love to visit the Philippines.

If we could get it in one or two days, I would prefer actually just to get back to the US as soon as possible so I can use my time off from work to spend with my wife. Double-check the requirements before going back to the PI for a visit. Someone told me that our fiancees cannot leave the US at all for 2 years. Do any of you know anything about that requirement?

Not true. You can go back for a visit with Advance Parole (I-131 application) which you can file with your AOS or any time after getting the AOS receipt NOA. You can also go back for a visit immediately after receiving your permanent resident card which often takes much less than 2 years. We got the permanent resident card about 6 months after filing.

Updated Elizabeth's timeline. Gee, Elizabeth, I think you have the fastest approval among the Manila beneficiaries ~ 12 days from NOA1! Vermont rocks! And less than a month from filing the petition, your case is now in Manila. Wow! If all the USCIS service centers were like Vermont, the public would not be bashing their government.

when i applied for a B1 visa in 2003, i was able to personally pick up my visa from Delbros..since this was a few years ago they may have changed the rules (they delivered my K1 visa to my apartment and my landlady signed for it -- the Delbros receipt you get after paying the courier fee after the interview has a section in the back of it where you can name a person as an authorized receiver in your stead in case you arent home when they deliver your docs)

anyhow, i dont think it would be a bad idea to call delbros and ask what their current procedures are...im pretty sure they have a website where you can find contact info

US Embassy policy is for visa/passport to be released through Delbros but if reason is compelling enough, they allow for personal pick up at the embassy . I've read of a guy (forgot his name) who was able to pick up his fiancee's passport personally because he reasoned he was leaving for the US the next day. Doesn't sound like that was a compelling reason but embassy agreed to release the passport to him. Case-to-case basis and depending on how persuasive you are, I guess.

I have good and unexpected news! First, getting the capacity to marriage certificate from the embassy was a breeze, and we were even finished and out of the embassy before they opened at 8am.

But even better, Fely and I visited a priest today to obtain our marriage license. The priest was a real joker and kept asking embarrasing questions about our sex life. I guess that was the marriage seminar. Then he filled out a marriage certificate, had us sign it, and then he signed it, and we were married, just like that. No 10 day waiting period or even a ceremony. Just $100 and we were married. It seems to be legal enough. Now, we have 2 weeks to wait before our honeymoon.

Sorry to be a devil's advocate but I am sure there must have been a miscommunication here. The priest cannot issue a marriage license. You have to secure this from the Local Civil Registrar. You cannot be married without a valid license. The license number will be part of your marriage certificate.

Philippine law prescribes a ten-day waiting period from the filing of the Application to the issuance of the marriage license. Is it possible that what the priest asked you to fill up and sign was the "draft" of the marriage certificate so that the parish can type it up for the ceremony? The fact that there was no ceremony is also questionable. The marriage has to be solemnized or you could be facing a marriage that can be declared null and void "ab initio" (from the very beginning) due to this technicality.

Please, please double check your marriage license or marriage certificate, whatever it is you have there. Go to the LCR and bring the documents that the priest gave you and show it to the LCR and ask for guidance. I don't want you to make any mistakes StarProg as you've waited long enough. There was also one VJ poster who married less than ten days after license application was issued and had to re-do the marriage thing again.

Please read carefully below the Philippine law and procedures for getting married. US Embassy says the same thing too.
