BJZags - Congrats once again my brotha! What's funny is that the Customs Officer asked three times more questions than the pre-interviewer and the consular officer combined. LOL!

My buddy who's fiancee came through Chicago about 3-months ago said the same thing. So I'm preparing Jen to expect possible questions from Customs and Immigration also at the airport. Though I have heard Detroit as a POE is pretty tame. Jen also said that the CO was a young white dude who was kinda cute. I'm a little jealous now, because I only have the white-thing going on, I'm neither young nor cute.

LOL! Very cool! Oh, during our SSA visit yesterday. They told us that immigration misspelled my Baby's last name. Maybe the C/O should have paid more attention to the screen instead of checking out my fiancee. LOL! Honestly, I don't know who inputs that information, but I thank them because I now have something else to make fun with my Baby.

How do you know when your file gets to Manila? Do they send an email or letter or something? As of yesterday mine hadn't made to NVC yet.

Here's the deal Dean...

You need to call the NVC at 603-334-0700 during the early AM hours EST (seems like the only time you can get through) and choose option 5 to speak to a person. You MUST speak to a live human! That human can tell you if your petition has been received by the NVC, when it arrived, the Case number, and when it was sent to the USE. Their operators are actually pretty helpful provided the NVC has received your petition. If they haven't, you just have to wait a couple of days and call again.

Do NOT rely on their automated system because, shockingly enough, it's unreliable. Many K1 petitions pass through and never get entered into that system. If you send an email request, their form letter response takes a day or two to arrive and doesn't provide the date the petition was sent to the USE. And you need that date in order to track the DHL shipping of your petition from NVC to any USE. How to do that has covered many times in the NVC topic.

You will wait a long time to receive any notice that the USE has received your petition. Best to call the USE once you have the DHL confirmation that petitions sent out on your Send Date have been received by the Manila USE. It is the fault of these government agencies that they receive endless calls for status updates because they can't get their own act together to send timely email confirmations or provide reliable online status.

after you have your case number, I got mine by calling NVC, you can call the Embassy at

011-63-528-6300 ext 5184 or 5185. 7:30am to 8:00am Manila time seems to be best time to call. that's how I found out my physical petition arrived at the Embassy. When case number is assigned, an electronic file of your petition will be sent to the Embassy.

POE at LAX.

When we got to the Manila Airport we realized that we had forgotten the XRAY, but the gentleman at the counter said that it was okay to board without it. He did ask to see the vacination record.

At LAX Immigration was a snap. They did everything at the counter in the lines. It did not take more than 4 minutes and she only asked a couple of questions. IE, what do you do for work and you do understand that she will have to leave if we do not get married. She commented about the pictures being cute and sent us on our way.

CUSTOMS Officer was another story. He was a complete ###! He asked me where I was going and after I responded he looked at my fiancee and asked her the same question. When she answered his response was to ask her why she was going there. When she replied to marry me he again said WHY! His attitude and questions were not related to U.S. customs and I felt he was way out of line. I am looking to find out if there is any way of filing a complaint against this guy. They do not have a carte blanche to be rude because of their position.

PW, it is not that those of us in AR did not have our documents ready it is that the consul wanted to verify one of our documents with the nso. Every time I see someone post like this I just cringe. A document check can and will happen randomly to cases. In talking to the embassy every day Lorrain admitted to me that the embassy lost some paperwork they ordered before our interview which leaves me scratching my head. They tell us to gather up cenomars, bc, mc, nbi but then they go ahead and order duplicates to check and throw people into AR and a lot of times they don't order up duplicates until after the embassy. They batch those requests which can take 4 to 6 weeks. A bit of advice, if your fiance/wife gets AR have her ask if she can carry a copy from NSO to the embassy, this may take time off of a document review related AR.

cybernutguy, I hate to say this but I am offended by your comment. If you read my post carefuly, never did I say that those in AR were not ready with their documents. And I quote my actual post:

Take note of the reasons for AR ~ birth certificate, Cenomar, divorce decree ~ so let us make sure our documents are in order.

I am sure that all of us spent many months and hours preparing and poring over our documents. But regardless, we all know that even if everything is in order, the embassy can still put anybody in AR. However, the chance of being put in AR "may" be minimized if documents are in order (e.g. they are current, they are NSO-issued, annulment decrees are certified true copies with embossed seal and not just photocopies, etc. etc.). We've heard of ladies appearing for their interview without photos attached to their visa applications and without the I-134. So what is wrong about reminding people to make sure that their documents are in order that it makes you cringe?
