So everything is ready for the I864, but last night when I called my dad to tell him to go ahead and send it, some questions came up. My dad will be acting as cosponser with me since I'm a student and don't have enough of an income, but if he files his taxes jointly with my mom does she also have to be a cosponser or is it ok to just have an I864A for just him even if the gross income is his income plus my moms? And another question. My dad has a primary job that is salary based (and more than fulfills the poverty guidelines) but he also has a side job that is his own personal business... would tax transcripts be enough and which profession would he put on the form? God, so many questions, so much time being WASTEDDDD.... but i'd rather have all this done right. Any ideas?

He just needs to provide evidence of his individual income, so tax transcripts are not enough, he will need his W2's and all other supporting slips:

If a sponsor filed a joint tax return with a spouse, but is qualifying using only his/her own individual income, the sponsor must submit evidence of that individual income. This evidence would include, for example, the sponsors own W-2(s), Wage and Tax Statement, and if necessary to reach the income requirement, evidence of other income reported to IRS which can be attributed to him/her, usually on Forms 1099. link

I don't know if he will need to present information about his additional business income or not. From the quote above it would not seem so, however perhaps someone with personal experience with this can offer some advice on that.

thank you!!! I just called as well, and for anyone that is wondering the same thing...the answer trailmix gave was correct. He needs his W-2's or any other proof of his individual income...and he can only choose one profession, either his primary profession, or his own business to fulfill the requirements (preferably whichever makes the most money). The other option was to have my mom also file an I864A but that's too much of a hassle. :) Thanks again!
