CR1 Visa and WIC

Hi guys,

I've searched the forum but I cant seem to find an answer. I'm hoping someone here can help me.

My wife is here on a CR1 visa. She came here 9 months ago via the I-130 route. I know that we have have to lift her conditions in about nine months.

Anyway, my wife is now 8 months pregnant. We're having a baby girl and we're excited about that. My slight dillema however is that right now, I am the only one working. Needless to say, were kind of living paycheck to paycheck. Someone had suggested that we apply for WIC. It seems like a good idea and it would certainly help us.

My question is...

Does anyone know if applying for WIC would somehow afffect her application to lift conditions?

I'm asking because I know I signed an affidavit of support promising that my wife wont be a public charge. Is this WIC thing considered a public charge?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't know for certain, but no one else has replied. My educated guess is that your wife may not be a burden on society, but the child can be. But I'd still probably seek advice from the Office where you will be filing to lift conditions, prior to trying to get WIC.

WIC will not affect it in anyway. You can apply if your income is below 185 percent of the U.S. Poverty Income Guidelines.

I had WIC for my son when i first got here (he was 4 months old then). Even my sister-in-law applied for it when she got pregnant and she barely got here.

I would say go ahead. It will help you a lot. Well at least for your baby's basic needs.

:bonk: the child is a US citizen.

She can absolutely apply for WIC.

Len, that wasn't the question mate, the question was whether applying would affect the visa. Therefore, my educated guess was that although his wife isn't allowed to be a burden on society, his child will be allowed to be a burden. ie. He can get WIC for the child...so now my head hurts for no reason, thanks.:D
