Out of all the (English/Russian) web translation services, I've found Google to be the most consistently reliable. Not perfect, and sometimes not even accurate, but over the long run I think it out-performs other sites.

Anyway, Google Translate just got better. For example, go to Google Russian->English and enter something easy like "read." Not only does it translate "read" to "читать" for you, but now it offers a whole bunch of other nouns, verbs, and adjectives that might be close to what you're searching for. And if you click on the "More" link, you can see a lot of related phrases. It also looks like Google may provide spoken examples in the future. You can hear the English version of the word, but not the Russian version yet.

Anyway...cool stuff, and it works just as well translating single words from Russian to English.

i've used google translate for awhile. at first i tried freetranslation.com, babelfish, etc. and i agree that google is the best!

Just a warning about the translator bot: it's far from perfect, and can be downright hazardous to your relationship. Like any online or electronic translator, the longer the text and the more complicated (or vague) the thought you're trying to express, the more prone to error it's going to be. Be sure to translate the resulting text back into English, to see how it survives the mangling. If it comes back more or less the way you intended, you're probably ok.

Multitran.ru is the best though. It won't translate blocks of text or entire websites, but it does idiomatic phrases.
