I am probably over-reacting, but time seems to drag during this waiting process...I keep seeing couples getting their NOA2 in just 2-3 months at the VSC (god bless them), and I am coming up on 5 months and have heard nothing since the NOA1 on 9/23/08. Should I be concerned? Do they really process the applications in the order they were received?

It can take up to 6 months. Once that 6 months hit and YOU have not received your NOA2 then I would call your congressman and start hounding them to get UCIS off their tushys!

mine took almost 5 months and some from july still have no noa2 yet:(

It would not be completely correct to say they "process" the cases in the order they were received. They ASSIGN the cases in the order they were received. VSC had some "labor problems" late last year and were very short handed. Cases were assigned of course and were stacking ever higher. About November, '08 the VSC hired "a whole bunch" of new adjudicators, plus started a program of part time adjusicators working from their homes on "clean cases". Of course the cases already assigned to the understaffed adjudicators stayed with them. So at the same time, now that the training is completed, you have adjudicators working on cases from, for example, September, and the adjudicator sitting next to them working on cases from November.

Cases can only be assigned as received, not processed. Some cases take many months, even more than a year to "process" as the filers have them completley messed up and/or do not respond to RFEs. "Processing" them as received would mean we would all have to wait behind someone slow to respond.
