They will scan the box with some sort of xray and if the see nothing suspicious they will not open. (usually)

Last time I was at Manila, I watched it seemed like hundreds of boxes come off the plane, and I saw a few that were repacked by the airline, for whatever reason, and those looked like giant balls of tape!

Last month , I went back to the Phils., When i opened my baggage i saw a papers at the top said quality inspected something like that.....all chocolates and soaps and chips ahoy inside my bag.
