Hello everybody, this is our first post as an active member but we've been reading your post almost every day while we were going through all the stages on this journey.

We are finally in the last stage, the naturalization process. And we got an I-797C letter and the check was cashed on 02/09/09.

our question is that I'm trying to enter the application number on our account on the DHS website to receive any email or update in our case but it doesn't let me do it.

The number starts wirth NBC*... and at the bottom of the applecation it reads NBC$.... Now, I don't think that either "*" or "$" are formal symbols to use as part of your 13 digit application number.

Does anybody know if we have to wait until the Biometrics appointment to start "tracking" our case?

Thanks very much for any feedback in this matter.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to track your petition for Naturalization since those petitions are processed by the local USCIS office. So you will just have to go by whatever notices they send you, first biometrics and then interview appointment.

Just FYI - don't expect the online status of your case to be updated as it proceeds - my online status is still "application received blah, blah", and I have my oath ceremony in two weeks. I have not read of anyone whose N-400 online status receives any updates after the initial entry.

Some are able to, some are not!! I saw my NOA1 online, and that was it, no further updates.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Thanks guys, I think what happened is that I got the letter on the 02/08/09 and the check was cashed on the 02/09/09. Probably that's why I couldn't chech the status.

Now, anybody from the Saint Albans, VT out there that went from the same process? I'm looking at timeframe, most of the local office has a 4 months period process but never heard anytinh from Saint Albans, VT.

Thanks!!!

In most case, you won't see any change from Online Case Status check system.

Mine still says "received and pending".
