My fiance is from Indonesia and she legally only has one name...her passport just says: ELY

Should i put this under family name or first name? Wil this likely cause me problems? This is common in Indonesia.

Thanks.

Some of my friends who has only one name use FNU (first name unknown) but I'm really not sure whether you should put ELY for the last name. Maybe you can ask USCIS or NVC?

Yes, its normal that Indonesians usually dont have last name. There's at least 2 Indonesian-US couple on here, perhaps they will come and answer you how to put the names on the forms. Ely is definitely her first name, not last name. Why dont you just follow as per her Passport? Leave last name blank? :star:

Thanks. Thats what i had but i was worried they might think i accidently left it blank. I'm thining of photocopying her ID, Birth certificate or passport to include to show its not a mistake. I am having someone in the states try to call USCIS to also get their opinion. Thanks.

Maybe that is where Prince got his idea for his name being a "sign"

Chinese don't have middle names so my wife's forms show FAMILY, Given, ----. For a single name, I recommend ----, Given, ----

Of course, show a copy of Passport and birth certificate to confirm. The birth certificate isn't required for petition filing but this is one instance where including it can be helpful.

Family name ---- First name Ely Middle name ----

Yes, show a copy of the ID or preferably the passport data page to confirm. It's not their first Indonesian rodeo.

LOTS OF INDONESIA HAVE ONLY ONE NAME, IT IS COMMON IN INDONESIA, YOU MIGHT WANT TO ATTACHED "KARTU KELUARGA" OR BIRTH CERIFICATE TO PROOF IT.
