Depending on which U.S. airport you fly into (NY JFK) some will issue a temporary 90 day work authorization if asked for . If issued, the employment authorization ends on the day the K-1 expires. You will have to file for an EAD when (or after) you file for AOS. If you do not receive your EAD before your K-1 expires you must stop working until it is received.

As much as I know, POE at NY JFK is the only POE in the US where you can ask for a temporary work permit. It may, or may not be issued. If it's issued, you can use it to work legally until your K1 expires (either by filing for AOS, or because you never married, which is when you have to leave, anyway).

In other words - if you need a work permit as soon as possible (as in - before you file for AOS, etc.), you may try entering the US through NY JFK airport and ask for one. You might get it.

I was doing research on this too, and the Social Security offices are supposed to be informed that K-1 Visa holders are able to work with the k-1 stamp even if they don't have the EAD stamp from JFK.

I suggest tou call your local SS office and ask them if they are aware of this. They should give your fiance (e) a SSN with work authorization even before the marriage takes place and before the Visa expires of course!
