To flee poverty, Filipinas marry foreigners

Really, who are we to criticize couples with a huge age gap? Yeah, marriage for convenience is always possible but it's really none of our business. A choice is a choice - one thing that man is gifted with. For people who can't handle it, you are worrying about things beyond your control.

Claudeth is much younger than me but we are just so damn comfortable together. I can't imagine being without her now.

Among the recommendations of the ADB was to tap remittances from

overseas Filipinos for productive investment and sustainable livelihood

opportunities for women so that migration becomes a choice rather than a

necessity.

Life in itself is a choice. Migration is also a choice.

Such recommendation is another dummy of some past programs made by the Philippine government on which the funds went to a pocket of the government official whose intention is to run another position in the next election and have more power to usurp government funds.

Give me examples of PI government projects or programs on which you can consider that it was indeed sustainable....tsk tsk..wala yata ah! NONE!!!!

Kindly show that article to those officials who run the country so that they can see how weak and stupid they are. Blame it to them and not to the Filipinas who migrate. Like the government officials, these filipinas just simply exercise their freedom of choice for their lives to have better living out of hardwork and sacrifices abroad, yet branded with negative connotation. Why not come up article for these government officials who are thieves of public funds and holding respectable positions in the society. Is it that a good suggestion? :hehe: How ironic!!!

Two thumbs up!!! I agree. But, i dont think they will make an article for these rampant corruptions for these government officials. It was only Ping Lacson who has guts to reveal big fishes anomalies. Even DOJ, we cannot trust fair judgement anymore. Seem like money can buy anything in the Phil, "Ang Bayan kong Pilipinas" .... (huhuhu)

All government plans and programs is indeed for short term remedies and solution of the problems only ... none are sustainable. How i wish the next elected president will be as brilliant and have a good heart and focus not only for their vested self interest but to serve as a public servant to all filipinos. But , the question is .... WHO? Is there any good in our politicians???

Well, i think all politicians started as good but when they are in power the temptation from bribes is very hard to resist.

Are you so sure? Then look here: Search Results

You may not want to go there, not because you wrong, but because you are most definitely correct. Reason enough to leave the Philippines, and believe me, your Kano spouses have at least some clue of the problems at home. And, don't look too closely at the same issues here in the US, the numbers are greater, and just as prevalent. When Congress passes what is on their desks now, and the President signs it, an amount greater than three times the Philippine economy will be stuffed into the pockets of state, county, and local officials all over the US.

I'm much older than my wife and we have been maried for more than 3 years and we've known each other for more than four.

I never planned to marry anyone of any nationality when we met, but things just happen..

She really has no desire to come to the USA, she has a large poor family there and none of them want to come to the USA or any other counrty either, they all love the Philippines and want to stay.

She is the only one in her family married to the "white guy" hehe...the rest of her relatives marry other Filipino's and seem happywith that choice. I travel there often and it seems on every trip I'm asked to be the godfather for one or two of the relatives new baby. I have almost lost track but I'm godfather to 13 :star:

There are many stereotypes in the article and in some of the posts both about both about Filipino's and age differences. People can really only judge by their own experience and value, articles such as this are written to further the political adgenda of the author and are not necessarily true or accurate.

Your story sounds like mine. I had just gotten out of a 10 year marriage and certainly wasn't looking for get married again. My friend migrated to the Philippines and landed in Iligan. Through an act of God I ended up chatting with the Filipina from CDO. She seemed nice and seeing I was just about 80 clicks south of CDO I figured what the heck. Wow! The minute I met her I was crazy in love. She is just about the most perfect person (emotional connection) I have ever met. We have known each other for five years and have been married for 3 1/2 and what a ride it has been. Besides, she agreed to wipe my poopy butt when I get old an feable.

This was passed in one of the Philippines Expats groups that I belong to.

MANILA, Philippines- The inability of the Philippine economy to produce

high-paying jobs especially for women has pushed Filipinos to marry

foreigners as a way to provide for their families, the study Country

Gender Assessment by regional lender Asian Development Bank said.

the underlined is true but it didn't outright mean that it pushed me to seek foreigner hubby as a way to provide for my family. <_< I left Ph at 20 yo (as ofw) and been in and out of the country three times and currently on my 4th leg out of ph when i met my future hubby. Also, i didnt fall short of my own race relationships and both have been worked towards marriage but it just didn't lead there till my luck (perhaps) brought me to meet my fiancee who happens to be usc, regardless of whether he is rich or poor, if it feels right then be it (am talking about nationality) althou' i must admit that my fellow fil isn't my best bet anymore after 2 failed realtionships due to cheating (huh thats another story :bonk: ).

Kinda pathetic to read such article in your/or and from your own homeland and bashing on fil marrying even as old as 40 years gap (not that i agree) when the very root that drives the natives out of ph is the lack of opportunity ...too much politics i guess that all the government have is surveys, articles, plans but thats just about it. Thankgoodness! i have only voted for the barangay captain in my 35 years (call me anything but voting isn't me and lie about who do i like to lead the ph, none so far) except that i want marcos back! (ferdinand, awright?) :hehe: (ok beat me! )

ahhhh....the life.

Imo, it's sad but quite true. Some Filipina marry off to have better life without basically knowing what to expect, or what there is for them. Some wind up being user, and like karma, they would be used by their husbands for other ahem things.

I think what should be done here to at least remedy the growing rate of women tying the knot with foreigners just for gc, is to give them proper education, and job opportunities.

This may seem irrelevant, but when my then fiance now husband and I went to the Usem late last year to get his certificate of legal capacity, a Filipina in her (late) teens was accompanied by an American who looked extremely old enough to be his great granpa. She was wearing off shoulder skimpy blouse and pants. She was trotting after her 'bf' while the latter was checking one poster (probably instructions on how to acquire legal capacity) after the other. It's kind of sad but I could only hope she would marry that guy out of love.

With regards to cheating partners as posted by adiiann, I think it goes for both sexes and Philippines does not hold monopoly of it.

thats really sad..... like others have said, to each of their own but when i hear nor see relationships like this, i still cant help but wonder how does it work in the long run no matter how one puts it as "love".

hey just my thoughts

This was passed in one of the Philippines Expats groups that I belong to.

MANILA, Philippines- The inability of the Philippine economy to produce

high-paying jobs especially for women has pushed Filipinos to marry

foreigners as a way to provide for their families, the study Country

Gender Assessment by regional lender Asian Development Bank said.

The number of Filipinos marrying foreigners have also tripled in just a

span of eight years from 7,819 in 1998 to 24, 954 in 2006.

It is also estimated that currently, 300,000 Filipinos, 92 percent of

whom are women, are married to foreigners mainly from the United States,

Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom and South Korea.

"(I)n the Philippines (as elsewhere), the phenomenon of 'mail order

brides' is not uncommon. In the absence of employment prospects and with

families to care for, many women view marrying a foreigner as an easy

ticket to an overseas life with steady remittances. With the advent of

the Internet, chat rooms, and text messaging the marriage migration

numbers are on the rise," the ADB said.

Data from The Commission on Filipinos Overseas showed that Filipino

women marrying men from East Asian countries tend to be younger and less

educated. These foreign men also usually are at least 40 years older

than their Filipino brides.

"Reports indicate that more women apply for 'marriage visas' to Japan as

a result of Japan reducing its official demand for entertainers, " ADB

said.

In 2005 Japan has imposed a stricter immigration policy following

Tokyo's inclusion in a US watchlist of high incidence of human

smuggling.

ADB said Manila should undertake measures to protect Filipino women as

those who marry foreigners that they do not know face enormous risks.

"Many of the men live in remote areas and are unsuccessful with women

from their own culture, who they feel are spoiled and have too many

freedoms. Instead, they want women with 'traditional' family values who,

once in the country, have nowhere to turn and are completely at their

mercy," ADB said.

Among the recommendations of the ADB was to tap remittances from

overseas Filipinos for productive investment and sustainable livelihood

opportunities for women so that migration becomes a choice rather than a

necessity.

I consider alot of filipina who marry foreigner becuase white guys seeking of this.... filipina have

many aspect that other woman don't have.Filipina can survive in any struggle

cuz we are already trained cuz we live in poor family , filipina are intelligent in everyway and we fight can our rights.

However, becuase of love and much respectful we are defeated.

To help our parents,is not the obligation of the husband.Since we,filipino have a good heart

and can't take our family out their suffering ...thats why we help. It Depend to the husband if he will help or not.

if they will...thats come from the heart.

let them marry whoever they want to marry. Who are we to judge? If they are doing it because they are desperate or not.. It's really none of our business, right? Philippine government is evil and should focus more on how to make new jobs for Filipino people and stop corruption. Human being are curious species just like any other and what they don't have from how they were raised would rise curiousity and eventually try it. There is no problem in marrying foreign people.. It's how people see it from the other race... the problem. Usually we are too busy minding someone else's business because we are bored or we just don't have a lot of interesting things thats happening in our lives.... but seriously... leave them alone. Let them have whatever life they want for themselves and their families because you would feel the same.

yes the women in Mindanao are the prettiest but OMG that temper and hardheadedness! guess it's a trade off LOL!!!

I can't believe my Filipina's disposition, she is so kind and forgiving. If we argue about something she is over it in about 2 seconds and is back to loving me up.

As for me, honestly, I am happy now that I hav a better life than my life before, before I met my fiance. I wouldn't hav what I hav now if I didn't meet him. He help me and my family financially just enough. But, to tell u, that's not the reason I want to marry him. I'm gonna marry him 'coz I love him truly. He's just an average guy in USA. He's just a teacher. There are still some foreign men who are better than him financially. But, I chose my fiance 'coz he's the one I love, the one I wanna grow old with, to take good care of, to serve, to be the father of my children. Some of my relatives and people here told me to find somebody else who can give me lots of stuffs and money. But still, I fight for him, despite of their mockings 'coz he's not as rich as the others. I even rejected them because of him. He makes me happy. I am happy seeing him online everyday. He made me a better person. And I'm willing to sacrifice everything, to wait for more years, for him. I don't care if he's not wealthy, just as long as I know he loves me, too. And eversince, I like to marry a foreigner. I am not attracted to Filipino guys. That's why my fiance now is my first boyfriend and first love and gonna be my last :)
