Quick question:

For financial support on the DS-156 (I think), some people recommend the I-864, others the I-134. Are either fine? Details please :)

No either are not fine... the answer is what is it your consulate wants because the affidavit is reviewed there... Typically for a "K" visa it is the I-134 (though there are sporadic posts of changes in the wind).

This needs a consulate specific answer so I am moving to consulate forum

YMMV

I-134 is for K-Visas, I-864 is for GREEN-CARDS or IMMIGRANT CR-1/IR-1 visas.

Should K-1 fiancé(e) visa applicants use the I-864 or the I-134?

Since fiancé(e)s are nonimmigrant visa applicants, they should use the I-134. They will need to submit an I-864 to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) when they adjust status to conditional immigrant in the United States after they are married.

I-864 is for K3 and CR-1 visas, for K1 the one needed is I-134. They changed the form and now doesn't have to be notarized.

Good luck, My interview is next month on March.

K-3 is NON-Immigrant too, IT uses I-134 at the visa interview.

Only CR-1 and IR-1 visas use I-864 because they are IMMIGRANT and result in a GREEN-CARD upon entry to the USA, The NVC processes the I-864 for the immigrant visas.

I am a K-3/K-1 petitioner and just received a packet from NVC telling me to pay the AOS fee and do Choice of Agent paperwork, etc. I wasn't expecting this, and am frankly utterly confused. We got our NOA2s for both I-130 and I-129F about two weeks ago. I thought the next step for me and my husband was for him to get the packet from consulate instructing him to gather his documents for his interview. This actually is the first I've heard about paying a fee for AOS, choosing an agent, etc.

I have been trying to educate myself online and cannot find anything (yet) that clarifies whether this AOS/COA/I-864 fees and bills process applies to non-immigrant visas (like ours), or only to CR-1/IR-1 cases, or only to certain K-3 cases or to ????.

Can someone BRIEFLY clarify what this process (NVC/AOS/COA/DS-3032) is all about and why a K-3/K-1 (non-immigrant) visa petitioner would need to do it? (And, yes, I've already been to THAT forum and read the pinned items about NVC, etc.)

DO I need to pay the $70 fee and have my spouse fill out the DS-3032 or NOT???? :help::blink::wacko::huh:

I really appreciate any information you all can provide!

My heart has adopted every shape.

It has become a pasture for gazelles,

And a convent for Christian monks,

And a temple for idols,

And a pilgrim's Ka'ba,

The tables of a Torah,

And the pages of a Qu'ran.

I follow the religion of love.

Wherever love's camels turn,

There love is my religion and my faith.

Click on the word "Guides" at the top of any page here. It's all spelled out for you. Any requests from NVC would be in connection with the I-130.
