i know you can have dual citizenship in Colombia, but im not sure with 3 nationalities. i have dual citizenship with USA and Colombia and i thought i heard that Colombia was one of the countries to be able to have dual citizenship.

i have a question...

we are planning on faxing and mailing out documents for packet 3. the NVC said bogota has already received it electronically but not physically. and that Bogota has already mailed my fiance packet 3 on March 4th. do we have to wait for Bogota embassy to physically receive out package for us to fax and mail the documents to them? we want to send everything latest monday so they can hopefully process it before the 15th and give us an interview date in april....so can we fax the documents on monday and mail them servientrega either tomorrow (saturday) or on monday before the embassy actually physically receives it?

another question regarding the I-134 and co-sponsor, does the co-sponsor need to have filed their taxes for this year? i have a co-sponsor in mind (my dad) but he works as an independent contractor and if he gets a letter from his employer it wont state how much he makes, he can probably give me his pay stubs but he wont have his taxes done until hte summer because he is going to file for an extension. can i use him or should i find someone else with a 'normal' job? (i make suffient but live in Colombia from 2006-2008, so my tax returns dont show suffient income, with my jobo now, i can only present a letter and my pay stubs for the interview, is this enough? thanks

Hi Omar,

You can fax the shortcut between now and the mid-month cutoff for an interview next month. I'd do it now rather than closer to that cutoff point if speed was a necessity in getting your SO home with you soon. If they have the electronic notification from NVC it means there is a case number at Bogotá in the works. And from the time the fax leaves the fax machine to the actual case creation... could be a day or two.

Not sure about your dad's tax status. usually yes your co-sponsor needs to have tax return proof from the recent tax year (2008). Not estimated taxes as an independent contractor for 2009 (now). 2008 will suffice- specially since we are talking before the April tax deadline for most 2009 filings anyway.

2006-2007-2008 tax year returns = OK.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

well i wrote an email to the embassy at the IVbogota@state.gov email address, i asked if i needed a Co-Sponsor, stated the documentation my fiance would be able to present at the embassy and they said no problem, what i have is enough and i wouldnt need a Co-Sponsor. im still kinda iffy and not quite sure. the only documents would be

1. an explanation

2. letter from employer

3. pay stubs

4. 2008 tax returns (only made 8,000 of 3 months of work, the rest of the time i lived in Colombia)

thats it, im making 34,800/yr. and its for K1/K2, we meet well above the 125% poverty line, but do you guys think this is enough? i dont have a co-sponsor yet and dont know if its best to have one or not. my fiance faxed and mailed the Packet 3 documents today so we should get a interview date for next month. im planning on mailing her my documents in the next 2-3 weeks, still dont know what service to use, that is quick and depenable, USPS and UPS are out of the question. and dont know if i should get a co-sponsor or just print the email they sent me and send it along with my financial evidence. Who answers those question on the email address, is it a CO? i wonder.....

38K is more than enough so make sure you take along the most recent, recent, recent pay stub along with that current letter from the employer AND a clear explanation. Do not muddle it up with intricate details- if you wish to provide evidence of why you were in Colombia for X time, make it count double by making it evidence of your relationship. The most important part for the Embassy is the latest tax year, or the current earning period. For AOS it will be crucial to look at the last 3 tax years- the 2 most recent being the more critical (showing an increasing trend in salary).

As for the email answers... actually... the Embassy employs a small workforce of Rhesus monkeys just for this task. I kid you not! :D

Good luck!

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

thanks HAL 9000, yea the only thing is that i dont know how the letter from the employer is going to look because i am an independent contractor working for them, so i dont have a 'salary' , i make a daily rate of $134 and work Mon.-Fri. to make my yearly income $34.800.00. I know its more than enough but i was only making this money now, i starting this job in Feb. in december i only worked 3 months. as for AOS, i honestly havent thought or even know whats the process once my fiance gets her visa, the main importance is that she gets her visa and we are together, then we will worry about whats next together. i wonder if it will be a problem because i didnt file taxes in 2007 and in 2006 i only worked 5 months. i just hope i dont have any problems with not having a co-sponsor. i dont really want to ask anyone, its not like asking for 5 bucks.....

That letter has to show (in agreement with your most recent 'paystub') whatever hourly/daily rate you make, and how 'satisfied' they are with you as an 'employee.' You may want to do some more searching for independently employed visa sponsors though.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Omar, you'll be fine as long as the employment letter shows how much you make. The only thing you will probably have to worry about is whether the Rhesus monkeys working at the embassy can do the math to get to the $34.800 from the $134.

Hola bienvenidos a VJ. Creo que la visa a la que se refiere es la visa CR1 ya que la visa K1 es para prometidos. Les recomiendo que lean mucho al respecto en este tema y en el que cerraron recientemente debido a problemas de espasio en el servidor.

Laugh at the monkeys why don't you. <_<

Monkeys will fling Fanta and poo at you.

Diana is correct, Omar. The serious Rhesus monkeys will want to do the math and make sure it adds up so they can approve the affidavit of support with no problems.

Hello. I've read all throughout both Colombia Club topics and have noticed that hardly anyone has talked about the CR-1 Visa and filing the I-130. Most people have done the K1 Visa. We would like more information about the CR-1 and filing the I-130, and have a few questions listed below.

I am a U.S citizen and I went to Colombia in January to marry my husband who's a Colombian citizen. I'm back in the States now and am preparing to file the I-130 to bring him over here to the States. But as I said before, we have some questions.

We read the list of short cuts for going through the NVC. It seemed to pertain to people who's applications were deemed as Appointment Post. But there was also mentioned a Standard. We were wondering if Colombia was considered a country that had Standard, or Appointment Post processing. And if it's Standard, we need to bring our documents with us to the interview? Or do we still do the whole NVC thing (meaning we'll get to use the shortcuts)? We are very confused.

Also, what is going to happen next after I send in the I-130 and receive my receipt? What should I do next? And how can I better prepare for what happens next?

Detailed answers to these questions would really help us with our process. We thank you in advance for any advice given.

Oh, almost forgot.. in our case, what do we do with all the documents (His birth certificate, Police Certificate, Military Record, Passport's Biographic Page, etc)? Mail them to the NVC in the U.S or does he have to take them with him to the interview, or both? This is really confusing.

Again, thanks in advance!

Give the members here a little time and theyu will pipe in with the answers you need. Also Mononoke28 will be a big help as she did the CR1 a while ago.

Good Luck, sorry I do not have the answer, but if you have kids going through then I can help :)

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?
