How long until one can apply for Citizen?

When does the clock start for applying for Citizen status? Is it 3 three years from when the immigrant was granted conditional residence status or three years after they remove conditions? We just filed to remove conditions last month- biometrics today! It's with Vermont SC so we think it will take every bit of a year so we want to be prepared for the next step. Also, if we buy a house will that delay things? If so, should we wait?

Thanks!

3 years from issuance of conditional status IF married. 5 years if not. They do take into consideration the amount of time spent outside the US in that calculation as well. So, if out of US for a large legnth of time, you will need to adjust that time.

Same rule applies...you can apply 90 days before the date of the conditional status approval.

Good luck.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

if you did how will they know and why would they care? In the end, no effect.

The date you were granted residency is when the clock starts, but make sure you also know all of the other requirements, you have to have been living in the US for certain amount of time, any trip outside the US counts agaisnt your time as a resident, you also have to be married to your spouse for certain amount of years before you apply. Also, you can apply 90 days before your 3 years as a resident are up, but just understand 90 days is not 3 months !!!, I made that mistake, sent my papers 3 months before!! About the house, if it is in both your names you can put it as evidence you are still married to your spouse, so, it is a good thing! Good luck in your journey
