I been reading through the guides on the K-1 Visa and I got a few questions, one being the medical exam, is that required as part of the visa approval? What kind of medical exam do I need? Also once it is approved and after marriage, do you need to work? in order to stay in the US to get permenant residancy?

Yes the medical exam is required for K1 and also vaccinations that you do not or can not prove that you already have.

No you do not have to work if your other half can support you, it is not a requirement you will have to apply for EAD as part of the AOS process to be able to work

hope that answers your questions

The medical exam is required for visa approval, yes. The Consulate/Embassy should be sending you a list of approved doctors for the exam, as they only accept doctors certified to perform the immigration medical exam. (At least that's how it is in our case). The medical exam is a full basic exam including TB test, any extra vaccinations you may need, and HIV testing as well. I would say that you probably don't HAVE to work after being married as long as your other half can support you and whatever dependents you both may have... Hope that helps

We met in October 2007 and our immigration journey started in July 2008 when we filed for the I-129F Fiance Visa petition.

Wow, even if your Canadian. I've had the TB test done as part of school back in 2003 since I am a day care teacher, that is required to work with kids. Also HIV i havent had it but were not exposed so no need for that but i guess you cant tell them that. Can you bring your medical history to the exam will it help so you dont have to get certain ones again? I am currently 6 months pregnant so my medical is up to date with everything pretty much. I checked in terms of vaccinations and I have all the same required ones as US does since I dont think Canada and US have a big difference in terms of the vaccination scheduel. Another question will my daughter she is due in April, also need to go through the exam? will be filing for a counsel of birth report for her, so she falls under US citizen birth aboard.
