... just to add a bit.... as already stated above, this is very much dependant on the Embassy you will be dealing with at the time of interview.

The I-134 is filed at the time of the interview. This is not legally binding. It is simply used to show that your USC fiance or co-sponsor will be able to support you and that you wont become a public charge after you have arrived in the US.

Some places, like NZ, care very little about the actual document and more about the beneficiaries work history and ability to work. Then there are some that will not even accept a co-sponsor. So it is very much Embassy specific.

They are looking at gross income not net.

The I-864, which is filed at AOS, is a legally binding document.
