Hello All!

Now that I'm just patiently waiting for my visa to arrive right at our doorstep, I figure out to start packing my things already. In that way, I wouldn't be rushing to pack everything when I get to leave.

So, I just wanna hear the Do's and Don'ts in bringing stuffs..

I'm thinking of bringing along

1)All of my Nursing books (copyrights and photocopies) since I'll be taking my NCLEX on March there

2)My burned CD's of reviews and practice questions

3)Dried fish and bagoong (cover it newspaper and then tin foil)

4)2 kilos of mango (a friend of mine said it's fine to bring as long as you'll declare it and pay appropriate tax)

5)Seasonings, (Pinakurat) vinegar

6)fragile religious images

Will all of these get through the airport?

Hope to hear from you..

You can NOT import Fruits and Seeds and may have a problem getting the fish past Customs. I am positive the Vinegar would be OK as long as the bottle is smaller than 375ml.

You are better off buying the seasonings after you get here. Almost everything is available on the internet these days.

Check in these items - then make sure you declare it... DO NOT LIE ABOUT IT AS IT CAN CAUSE DEPORTATION. They are iffy on stuff like these so be wary.

God bless!!!

Mango's are definitely no.

Bagoong... maybe... they let me keep that when I came back, but I'm kind of surprised they did because it contains meat, so it's iffy at best (there was a filipino security gaurd who was there and knew what they were and made no comments about the bagoong itself... he may have been the incinerator they used to dispose of the mango's).

The dried fish... I'm willing to bet they'd also say no to that.

I recommend not bringing any food items at all, you're asking to have your baggage inspected by bringing anything like that (name brand pre-packaged food probably isn't an issue but anything homemade is very likely to be a problem). The airport is not the copyright police, they have no reason to look for anything like that, with the exception maybe of trying to bring in counterfiet versions of products (to sell), they have no reason to look that closely at a burned cd or photocopies to determine if they are legal, they are about drugs, bombs, and agriculture. I think you are far better off not bringing anything that may require you to go through customs, if you have to go through customs they will look much more critically at everything you have compared to if you don't go through (in which case it's a quick x-ray and you are on your way).

Also, harmonica's look like gun clips on x-rays, just a tip for something you might have and not think about...

4)2 kilos of mango (a friend of mine said it's fine to bring as long as you'll declare it and pay appropriate tax)

Hope to hear from you..

Yes, your mangoes will get through the airport if you will declare it BUT prepare to pay $100 PER MANGO and yes, that is base from the experience of my hubby going back to US from PI. Of course, hubby didn't want to pay that much for mangoes so he end up giving all his 3 kls. of mangoes to his flight seatmates and they were all happy

Good luck with everything.

As far as Nclex questions google " Nclex 3500 " there is all of the nclex questions you will ever need. Practice tests and you can focus on certain areas or just review with instant feedback. Also MORE than practicing questions when you get to the US for 30.00 dollars or so you can pick up Kaplan nclex strategies...it gives stategies for the test questions...also some review but mainly "strategies". If I only studied one thing it would be kaplan, if two it would be nclex 3500! In other words no need to bring all the photocopies and burned cd's. Almost any question you have will be in the nclex 3500 site that is free. Good luck with everything and God bless!

Was that in chicago? That was where they took the mangos I had (yes I had declared them). If he was going through customs I don't think he'd be given a choice to pay a fee OR give them to the other passengers... so I'm guessing he must have been told that information while on the plane still? I'm just curious, doesn't change what I said, best not to have anything you think you have to declare because even at a minimum, it's an extra hassle at the airport (and obviously $100 for a mango is too much)!
