Sending a check to Canada

I think this is possible, but can I send a check to someone in Quebec from a checking acoount that I have with a Credit Union......

Can this person withdraw the cash after it has been on deposit for some period of time??

I also have a Wells Fargo checking accout....would it be better to use it??

I'm just trying to avoid the fees that the banks charge using the International funds transfer thru the SWIFT system ($40 at each end), and I dont want to pay Western Union their robbery fee either.

Thanks

Mike

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

I'm confused!!! he mentions canada, then talks about Quebec?? is it Canada or is it Quebec? lol Just kidding!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

:bonk:

Go to Walmart, get a walmart money card with two cards. Have one in the other persons name.

Send the card to that person.

Then you can put money one the card in the U.S. and the other person can withdraw the money at any ATM, for ATM charges.

I do this for transfering money to Brazil, avoids the $40 swift charges and the Brazilian taxes that are taken in a wire transfer.

Put the money on the card in TN 2 hours later it is available in RIo for less than $8 total.

Best, cheapest and fastest way to tranfer money internationally.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

I was gonna say - where do you live cause I've got some coinage I need to change.

But yes, cheques from the US are easily cashable in Canada/Quebec and vice versa.

And flames, I'm not sure how long you've been away but just in case you needed a visual reminder. :hehe::lol::bonk:
